My Y fronts never wear out. As a hole develops in the fabric there remains a solid skin, a crust of filth covering up the hole. I've been wearing the same pair since 1972 and there's very little actual fabric left.

That's what I do with any clothes that wear out. I wear them until any defects annoy/embarrass me, then they get reassigned to bike-cleaning duties.You do know that once they're past repair they make great rags for cleaning bike chains, don't you?
