I just saw it* ( in 3d no less). No disrespect to those who love star wars, but is was pretty naff. To each their own. But I am one of those people who aren't into the whole star wars thing anyway.

2 out of 10 for me, and probably about 250 minutes too long..... If you do like that sort of thing, I suppose you'd like it.

*I was meeting a friend who wanted to see it

Saw it at the weekend - what a let down.

No wonder it has a 54% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes - Disney are ruining it.

I can't believe the entire plot was a fleet of ships running out of Space Petrol :banghead:

Saw it today - it was alright, but no better.

To much of ripping off stuff from previous films in the series (oh, sorry, we call that paying homage now don't we?). While TFA borrowed heavily from Ep IV, TLJ delves deep into Ep V.
I won't spoil it, but if you see it and you've seen the rest of the series you'll see what I mean quickly enough.
And what the hell is that opening exchange between General Hux and Poe Dameron about? Really?

And on that note, can I just go on record and say that I hate Disney for what they've done to it. It's now a cash cow, with them milking every last drop of fan good will for the originals while bringing precious little new.

Nice to see Ade Edmondson in a role that fulfils the potential he showed in the Young Ones though. ;)

I didn't see that may similarity with Empire. I thought, if any, it had more in common with Return of the Jedi.

Even then it went a different route.

Just to be clear: Star Wars has always been derivative. One of the reasons the original movie was so effective is it was a real film student's/nerd's film, riffing on the greatest movies in the canon. In fact, it wasn't so much a movie as a series of quotes from other movies.

I remember my father's (amateur film lover) appreciation of star was was completely different to mine. I described Alec Guiness' role to him, and he loved it without seeing a frame - he knew exactly what Alec Guiness as the ageing knight from a lost era would be like. And then seeing the movie, he rejoiced in the riffs from great westerns (The Searchers) and war movies (12 O'Clock High). I don't think he knew Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress, but when I saw that many years later, I recognise R2D2 and C2PO. There are lots more

The problem is, instead of borrowing from the greatest movies ever made, now they are stealing from a series of escapist space opera movies with a colon in their titles.

I saw it last night too. It is far too long and not very good.
I can see why the die hard fans don’t like it, but it is time for them to move on. It is just a fairy story for kids.
Is it too soon for Spolier discussion yet?

Good use of female, particularly older female characters, and subversion of masculine tropes. Some alright Jedi stuff but the rest of the plot was rubbish. Not really a proper Star Wars feel to it so no feeling of fanboy nostalgia but given some of the themes that may have been deliberate. Porgs were cute.

But dear lord was it long. There was probably a pretty decent two hour film in there but it really needed a good bit of editing. Most of the middle of the film could have been cut.

Wife liked it very much. She's not massively into Star Wars but is a big fan of Adam Driver.

I saw it last night. I thought the pacing was OK, the humour wrong, the plotline borrowing too much from it's own history and no one really carrying the film any more with Chewbacca only there for cheap laughs. Both my sons liked it and suggested I was getting old. They may have something but I kind of wished I was watching the first one on the big screen again and not this one.
