Most cabbies are great, super drivers, and really decent people. I have a feeling that there might be a slightly higher proportion of c@hnts amongst them than there is in the general driving population.

This is one - he and his mate lied through their teeth about what happened, as is fairly obvious from the video:

I do feel the problems with a minority of cabbies could be sorted out very easily with a little more transparent and honest traffic policing, and a shakeup of the PCO. The PCO seems to me to be nothing more than an organisation whose only purpose is to promote and support cab drivers no matter what their transgressions.

Why is it that cabbies only account for 1% off all journeys in London

Where did you get this stat from? I'm surprised - I'd say black cabs make up 20 - 30% of the vehicles in central London these days, post congestion charging.

But half of them are empty and most of those remaining have one or two passengers - significantly fewer than a fully loaded bus

You'll have just the same amount of idiots on the bike

I see people who just ride without the use of a brain

It was about a year ago when they were talking about the surge of cycle commuters. Buses were most used, cyclists in the middle and taxi's right at the bottom.

Is there any reason not to ban taxis from every city centre and install Boris bikes in their place?

Argh, not those hideous monstrosities!

I always get stuck behind some idiot struggling to get the thing moving away when the traffic lights go green. They're too heavy and clunky to use for rush hour traffic - and I've used them myself, so I know ^_^

Round Westminster, it's generally tourists who don't know which side of the road we use in the UK or you get herds of them having a sight-seeing tour via the pavements...

Well, yes, since you can't fit a wheelchair on a Doris.

But I have no idea why able-bodied people ever use them.

If there aren't a load of buggies on it already, or it's full of people. Bus travel is a big hassle for people who face a lot of hassles getting around already.

Don't get me wrong - I would love a world where there are no cabs on the streets. But I wouldn't want it at the expense of people less able than myself to get themselves around.

I agree. The bus is the worst form of public transport imaginable IMO - it's the most crowded, plus there are almost always screaming babies on them. At least on a train you can move cars.

That said, if you can afford to use a taxi as a regular form of transport and can't ride a bike you may as well get yourself a car.

Similar experience to mine. I stopped to photograph the taxi's parked on the contraflow at the station and within seconds they surrounded me and were threatening me with violence. My OH has witnessed them threatening two other women also.
I've made complaints to the taxi lisencing and they've completely ignored me.

My daughter's at Hallam Uni and I've also seen outrageous behaviour by taxis at Midland Station.
