Having switched to the lunacy distance challenge for this year due to a bad start missing feb and march i am determined to get the rides in to get the challenge done and dusted , if all goes to plan on sat i will have done 3 metric rides this week .

May ride completed ...
Very nice morning ride up onto the Cotswold escarpment.
0 - 10kms : Two climbs, Coxgrove & Hinton taking me up to the Cotswolds.
10 - 20kms : Pleasant ride thru the villages of Burton, Acton Turville and the very busy Badminton which is getting ready for this weekends horse trials.
20 - 30kms : Crossed the busy A46 to Hawkesbury Upton before dropping down to Horton.
30 - 40kms : Nice tailwind took me speedily across Chipping Sodbury common and into the town of Yate.
40 - 50kms : Ride back home via Coalpit Heath and Henfield due to the bridge closure on the A432.
A good 50 Km loop which I'll definitely ride again ... 👍

Slow progress with lots of climbing and headwind for first 2 days, and a few km of energy-sapping gravel. Cold mornings but sunny afternoons.
Lovely cycling country, long stretches with zero traffic in Northumberland & the Borders.

Delayed start to get on the scoreboard for June.
Following on from earlier discussion, Dent Head landslip at Cowgill is now (legitimately) passable on foot or with a bike, barriers have been altered so the safe 1/4 of the road is clear. In part due to pressure from locals and businesses losing trade.

Jun done. Rode from Hemel Hempstead up to Marton in Warwickshire via the Bike Bus, a rather splendid bike cafe situated in a bus. Near Cranfield.

Yesterday offered a little window of opportunity to do July’s qualifier the day that the schools and collèges broke up for the summer holidays and with the temperature around 29C (ie not brutally hot).
Straight down the V3 Voie Verte from Mauron to Questembert (Bel-Air) – stopped at the end of the tarmac (didn’t bother going to the hippodrome CP). Back north to le Pomplex then west out to the D5 to see how the VP21 crosses the road … no tunnel or bridge, it’s straight over: look both ways then hurtle across if no traffic (one for another day .. perhaps September when the traffic might be a bit lighter). Back to le Pomplex – thought briefly about going down to le Moulin de Bragou but decided it was too hot to start pratting about 50-odd kilometres away from the van. Also realised I didn’t have enough water so I’d need to drink sparingly.
Pulled off the V3 at la Ville ès Mouës – looped around to see if there was a way of getting to Molac that didn’t involve losing a lot of height. Tried one road that turned out to be a dead-end .. gave up with the idea and headed up to la Muterne. Down the D149 to le Chenil/Gournava and back onto the V3. Stopped briefly at Pleucadeuc gare to scoff some melting chocolate cake. Then a long slog (42km) back to the van – occasionally sipping the little water that I had left.
Pleased I’d managed the July MCAM qualifier as a day-time ride but furious with myself for not carrying enough water.
113.35km in just under 7 hours cycling. Home finally – tired and de-hydrated. Drank a bath full of cold water before doing anything else.
