Did 80 mile Carlisle to Settle route as a reconnoiter of our club ride next month to mark th 150th Anniversary of the rail line (and Dementia Forward Charity fundraiser), stopping at every station en route.
Addendum: if anyone nearby fancies it, welcome to join us on May 1st. Possibly bike transport up from Settle (we take the train to Carlisle start), if we still have van space. Free, with a bit of support en route, voluntary donation to Dementia Forward.
Pm me if you’re interested.

Just a quick check-in at the end of the month - haven't seen posts from @PaulSB, @ukbabz or @whitehart so far. If you have managed a ride in March, please let me know so I can update the sheet.

I updated my March ride on 16th or 17th March and have just logged for April - Im still in

May done. A much better ride than of late. Felt fine at the end.
I really like the Kent Downs as a cycling area, but riding to them and riding in them is all a bit much for me these days so I took an early train out to Sittingbourne and rode a big figure of 8. Up the Downs, down the Downs, up and down and back to Sittingbourne eventually. First ride in shorts of the year. Some of those little lanes are all one big pothole.

Quick note on yesterday's ride.

Weather forecast was rain and wind all day and I suppose this is generally how it turned out but I had a really good ride.

Two hours in, nothing but rain, I was questioning my decision to ride but as the day wore on it changed to sunny intervals and showers. As my legs were in cooperative mood it was a great ride. Towards the end the rain came back but as I was in a good mood it really didn't matter and it was I think my favourite ride of the year.

So the moral of the story is: If it's raining, put a rain jacket on and ride your bike.

Shoes are still wet though.

Was away from home and completed May's. But was getting some vibration when rear wheel braking.
Careful examination (wheel out of dropouts) revealed a small (<20mm) split in the braking surface of a rim (yes I know: one of those old-fangled wheels where the calipers press rubber against the rim and wear it down).
So I'd managed the 100+km including some fast descents (and braking) with that.
Annoying that meant no more riding beyond down into town and even then front brake only, as away from home and no 'spare wheel' access.
Now sorted with a self-built wheel, and will replace the OpenPro rim this coming week with same.
Rode 80km+ with youngest (23) son today - pleasant temperature and quiet roads

This year could see the demise of my streak.

I've missed a whole series of weekends due to stuff and holidays. And last week, while I was away, I turned my ankle and it's now very swollen and multicoloured. I don't think it's a break because it doesn't really hurt. But it's a mess and I'm going to have my work cut out getting a 100k ride in. I'm away again this weekend so maybe it will have cleared up w/e after next or, cutting it fine, the one after that.

Time to start planning a route of maximum flatness.

Good luck recovering ,you will still got 2 weekends left after you come back so there's hope . If the comes to the worst you could swap to be Lunacy distance challenge or drop down to the half century one to keep the motivated to keep riding

Fingers crossed my ankle will be a well enough for this magnificent route:

I don't think I could manage to devise anything flatter or less ethical. It will take a bit of train shenanigans to get to/from the ride.
