The height/weight/length of a Chieftain is pretty obvious, but it’s always the width that astounds me

This is Sutton Bridge, on the A17
It’s crossed on journeys between Lincolnshire & Norfolk

This (apparently) is the DUKW, that operated for many years on Hunstanton beach

I discovered the height of a Chieftain for myself one night in a very cold and dark BATUS. Standing on the back deck whilst working on the searchlight in readiness for a night live firing exercise my 10" long screwdriver (with insufficient insulation) managed to touch the very high voltage in the searchlight and earth at the same time. I woke up about two minutes later laying on my back on the floor  saved from serious injury by the foot deep snow I landed on  My right hand was quite badly burned and required attention in hospital but the screwdriver was even worse than me having lost about half its length . The trip to hospital was interesting too but that's another story ^_^

Absolutely gutted last year when we were looking for somewhere to break stop and passed this place. My eyes lit up as i saw it from the road...shall we stop here ? I hopefully asked...
I wanted a Maccys said my wife. So we trundled on to a boring sit down in a faceless, corporate eatery.
Gutted, it looked great from outside...I didn't actually know where we were, we were a bit off route...

Rb's, I've froze in the back of those so bloody often. One of the best mornings in my military career was driving up to an OP on Sennybridge very early in the morning, low sun, low cloud cover....stunning views.

Can I take it, you've seen Mr Hewes on YouTube?

Some of the newer films show them ploughing with a Chieftain :notworthy:

Yeah, he's a bit weird but his videos are pretty good. I have sent him information about some of the more "exotic" aspects of Chieftain electronics and some of the built-in test routines he can use for fault finding in the past ^_^

As long as he keeps revving those beautiful B60 engines I'll keep watching
