There's a good, proper cafe up the side of the post office on the road leading to Victoria Square.

Yes but I don't want to hear of proper cafes anymore Mr. P

I want to hear more about Mr Egg.

In fact I think a whole thread or even forum could be developed judging by it's culinary reputation - I love the idea you can have anything with an egg

Plus Kirstie "aware" of bondage activities upstairs

People throwing bleach at other customers??

Not letting you use the toilet because you were with a homeless man??

Strange stag does??

My greasy spoon just serves cheap/greasy food!

These are stories that need to be told.

Hey - I didn't move it?

But I do want stories

The reason I have this 'insider knowledge' on Mr Egg is that my flatmate when I lived in brum in the late 90s used to be 'in the know' regarding the BDSM scene in Brum - she was a clothes designer who used to make clothes mainly out of latex and so had a number of clients 'on the scene', so to speak.

Oh Mr Egg..used to be filled with people in the small hours of a morning, steaming drunk and soaked with sweat after being turfed out from some club or another..wobbling their way down the street and stumbling into the entrance of that bright yellow exterior/interior. The funny thing is it hasn't really changed much over the years.

It was always busy. A good full English and many variations...though I hear that the prices have gone up a lot recently but I don't know. There's always someone in there eating away. Many a fond memory for me-usually rather intoxicated. This is rather revealing of my 'heritage' and early youth!

I remember Mr Egg from when I lived in Brum in the mid 90s, though I never actually went inside. Brings back memories, though rather hazy ones... , of staggering along Hurst St after a night out in one of the pubs that did lock-ins in the dingier streets at the edge of the city centre. Did anyone else here frequent the Oddfellows?

I find it hard to imagine - it seems such a multifacetted place.

A good proper cafe according to Mr P.

A late night drinking den for after the clubs close

The BDSM area

The bleach throwing

The fact you have to always eat an egg.

It sounds as if an innocent passer by could stroll in for a good old British fry-up and be trapped in some sort of Kafkaesque nightmare

Birmingham wasn't named "the city of a thousand trades" for nothing.

Yes Dell,

there was a bit of a thing for full English breakfasts with one of my brothers- couldn't eat them for years until recently, though it was a mishmash with the more usual Chinese cuisine. I think I grow another hearts worth of weight in coronary fat whenever I visit family.

More telling of where I pick up my bad habits from..! Though there are many funny stories from my time in Brum.

Ahhh, brummies. They'll turn their hand to anything.

Obviously

It takes a certain genius, I reckon, to turn their hand to anything all in one place and call it "Mr Egg"!

By the way Mr P did you say it has closed down?
