My wife's bank and costa card both threw a wobbler after she started keeping them in her phone cover thing.
I Am not an expert but I have never had any issues carrying my phone with an emergency credit card. People used to worry that it could kill the magnetic strip though it seems it could be a myth a bit like starting a fire with your phone at a petrol station.

Won't happen with credit cards, they use a different type of magnetic strip to cards like hotel room cards, which are designed to be rewritten frequently. Those can be wiped with a mobile phone.
