I have had my very first new £1 coin today. It looks very much like the 1 Euro coin and wonder if it will cause some confusion in the shops, even if it isn't round as it is nearly round.

The 12 sides are so that you can use a spanner to extract it from a Yorkshiremans fist !

I heard that the new coins were more squared originally but the mint were worried they'd make a hole in folks pockets so they rounded them a bit ?

I understand they contain some sort of chip, which sounds pretty smart but I do wonder what'll happen to that chip if the coin is left next to a mobile phone or mag field. My bank cards have suffered due to proximity to both.

Is that just too smart.
My bank card is kept with my mobile phone in the same holder. Never had any trouble using it.

They are made out of the souls of murdered lambs, I am surprised nobody has thought to comment on that before now.

Nah, you're thinking of the new carnivore friendly fiver.

When they first came out I went to the shop as a wee lad for sweets. I spent 30p and handed over my 50p coin. The old lady in the shop gave me 4 20p coins back I assume thinking they were 5p's. Result! I thought at the time. I feel my life has suffered ever since as I knew what had happened the instant the coins fell in my palm at that tender young age of 8.... I often have to battle with my own loose morals to be satisfied with myself...:okay::whistle:
