Perhaps they've been stockpiling production so there was enough to go round at launch?
I was hoping someone had messed up and the 2016 coins were worth a bit!!

The 12 sides are so that you can use a spanner to extract it from a Yorkshiremans fist !
Got change for this?

If anyone has any of the fake 2016 £1 coins, send them to me and I'll dispose of them safely. ^_^

Nah, you're thinking of the new carnivore friendly fiver.

When they first came out I went to the shop as a wee lad for sweets. I spent 30p and handed over my 50p coin. The old lady in the shop gave me 4 20p coins back I assume thinking they were 5p's. Result! I thought at the time. I feel my life has suffered ever since as I knew what had happened the instant the coins fell in my palm at that tender young age of 8.... I often have to battle with my own loose morals to be satisfied with myself...:okay::whistle:

To my knowledge, I'm the first person ever tondeface a 20p piece.
Got one the day they came out, and spent the day merrily rubbing it with emery cloth. We lived dangerously back them, and my chums were impressed with my daring, devil may care ways .
they have made it in the guise of the the old threpenny bit - probably the same value with inflation
My reference is the Polo Mint!

When they decimalised they were 3d, which became 1p in the new money

We stock bought before they went up to 1 1/2p

They are now 65p

What's the betting it'll be yet another piece of legal tender NOT accepted by those infernal railway ticket machines :cursing:.

The machines in Leeds, there for the travelling public's convenience and to save time (), don't accept £2.00 coins, new £5.00 notes, or £20.00 notes. And before you think of stocking up on 5p coins just for spite, the railways saw you coming - 5p coins are not accepted either. DAMHIKT .

I'll have to cash in my collection of the old ones. I started a while ago but still have a fair few to bank. They don't seem to be leaving much in the way of transition time.

I know why they won't accept the £2 coin.
