Well, they've started and the Downhill has already been postponed

Vancouver and the facilities look amazing.

I've booked the sofa.

So, fellow CC'ers, what do we think?

Shift up, I love the Olympics, Summer and Winter. Especially the Ice-Skating.

i'll bring some doritos and dips. just seen some of the jumping. make it look so easy but i bet my landing would be unpleasant.

Gutted the downhill was cancelled today, the main event I'm looking forward to though, is the snowboard halfpipe. Ben Kilner is competing for Britain, I've met him a few times (on my season and on the uk) nice lad and stylish rider, he's aiming for top 20 this yeh!

Saturday night TV is 'crap' in the Noodley household - but I got to watch the rugger so can't complain too much.

I really like watching the Olympics (both Summer and Winter), even sports I know nothing about.

Looking forward to the speed skating. And the long distance skiing thing - can't remember what the real name is

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Why do those speed skaters look to be going so slowly?

I watched the quarter finals (?), semi-finals of the men's short track speed skating. Well done to Jack (sorry - forgotten your surname).

I do apologise for laughing in the final. An over enthusiastic Korean skater tried to get into too small a space and ending up sliding into the very soft* barrier, accompanied by his team mate. I can guess that hasty arrangements are being made so that they are kep out of each other's way for some time. This was in the last corner before the Line, and they would have got first, second and third for their country.

* It looks soft compared to the barriers at Solihull ice rink, where I learned to skate.

BTW who said that it looks like they are skating slowly. You must have been watching a different race.

Do they ever skate the other way round? and do they end up with one leg a different shape to the other?

Auntie Helen

Ich bin Powerfrau!
The chap they interviewed beforehand said they always skate anticlockwise and the blades on their skates are arranged accordingly.

I would imagine you might get slightly different leg muscles. Haven't seen any of them with more thigh than Chris Hoy yet.

That would be the speed skating race, as opposed to the short-track speed skating.

The speed skating was over a long distance - hence the 'slowness' of the skating.

 My apologies to Dan Bo. But which was I watching then? They were going round in circles, seemed fast to me.

Is speed skating a long distance, and short track a short distance?:laugh: I thought it was the track that was short, not the distance. Well err... it is a very long time ago, that I was skating. Usually watched Ice Hockey as a spectator.
