Well I'm watching the Winter Olympics in Germany and it's quite a different experience from the BBC. Firstly, we haven't had a sniff of an English person on screen in the last two days. There has been loads of Biathlon and Nordic Whatsisname and Ice Hockey and no Curling. Katharina Witt is commentating for some of it. I'm learning lots of useless vocabulary. However, not having Sky or anything at home we have to rely on the BBC's coverage, whenever it is. Here Eurosport (German-speaking) has Olympics the whole time so that's good, and quite a lot of the time I can watch their equivalent of BBC which doesn't have adverts. Lots of Bobsleigh on, mainly cause the Germans seem rather good at it!

Is the Canadians tactics of restricting snow and track access to other nations justifiable tactics or gamesmanshipunsportsmanlike behaviour?

If I was Canadian and I won a gold medal because I knew the track inch by inch and knew the other competitors didn't, I'd feel I didn't win the gold in either the right spirit or fairly. It'd be tarnished for me, I'd know that I didn't win it on pure ability.

I thought the Norwegian bloke catching up with the leading trio and eventually getting the silver in the cross country was one of those Great Sporting Moments. Truly heroic. The commentator explained it was because the Norwegians can't stand the Swedes. As it was the Swede got the gold but it really was a magnificent althletic feat.

That was one of the finest moments so far IMO, his sprint finish after catching up was incredible. I'll be rooting for him to win the 50km event.

I like the grace of the speed skating too. Did you see any of it where they have a superimposed line showing where they are in relation to the leader?

I ended up watching the whole of that Nordic skiing thing today with the amazing Norwegian. The German commentary seemed to be mostly about their last chap in the relay getting too tired, but I was astounded by the way that Norwegian man made up half a minute´s deficit. Stunning!

i did, couldn't figure out why they only use one arm most of the time down the straights though?

I've seen some use none, one or two but the two method is mainly for the last straight so I guess it helps in the final last gasp sprint.

yeah but you'd thnk they'd use it on every straight to keep the speed higher
