I have been playing a game with the kids. The aim is to come up with a random Olympic fact, but it has to vaguely believable. Examples have included

No Olympic event contains the letter z. (Which may actually be correct  )
Depends on your choice of spelling...

Synchronized diving, and swimming.

(Been thinking about this since you posted it, and then saw the caption on telly this morning...)

So the track and field starts today.
Does this mean that it took until Friday to get the stadium back into a fit state to be used for its intended purpose [i.e. sport rather than the opening ceremony]?

Yes, I just saw it on TV and they are still finishing off and checking the timing systems.

I'd really like to see a timelapse 'webcam' view of the whole thing, apparently as soon as the ceremony closed there were cranes and trucks in there. A set movement every 20 minutes and 600 truck movements.

I think shot putters should wear helmets. If they let go of one of those things too soon and it hits them on the head .....

And tennis players. Those balls being fired around at over 100 mph, stands to reason they need helmets.

Of course some sports already use them - white water events and boxing for example. Have they considered whether they might suffer extra injuries as a result of them?

Cyclists have to wear them because UCI say so, but I wouldn't want to discuss that. it's far too controversial!

Just as I think I'm getting my head around track cycling I switch the telly on and there's about thirty people hacking round the track!

...and I just heard the commentator say that competitors can pull themselves off while going round the track... How would that help?!?
