This new Palm Pre phone looks like being the business. A question though: it is obviously going to come out being offered in conjunction with contracts. I would want it principally for its ability to store data and other functions as I rarely use mobiles and prefer to do pay as you go i.e. buy top ups. Would this sort of phone work on that basis?

Initially it looks contract only Andy. I'd also wait a bit longer, there's still a few teething problems with battery life I've been reading about.

There's also the Palm Pixi to come.

Agree though, as someone who has been a Palm user for a long time, finally they've got their act together and produced some exciting stuff again.

I would have thought that these contract only deals somehow infringe monopoly legislation. IMO they ought to be offered by law at a reasonable purchase price as well.

I've been waiting for this one ever since I heard of it but it's just as expensive as the iPhone. I can't bear the thought of paying out £35 per month for 2 years but neither can I think of paying over £300 for a PHONE! I've been a Palm user for more years than I can remember, the first one being a good deal on Orange (600). The others I've bought new but fairly cheaply from Ebay.
Are they (Palm Pre) compatible with Mac though, as it's very hit and mis being able to get any information onto a Mac from my existing one.

You can just buy a SIM and put it in any phone, that's exactly what I did with the Centro. I'm now on a contract but that's another story.

I don't know about mac compatibility Campfire, it should say on there website though and there online technical support is very good too.
