...well it's hardly a holiday period and they probably took on lots of extra staff who now have to fight to do each application!

Blimey. I used to have to get mine done same-day as I could fly on business at 24-hours' notice (less on a couple of occasions), and the cost was quite eye-watering.

Irish passports like all passports need an authentic representative, there is a great American priest in London, who will sign for a donation to the Church, he also comments on your accent.

THat's good news. Maybe it's time I finally got a UK passport. You have to send in all your current passports (I'm naturalised) and I hate the idea of being trapped without a passport, so I haven't risked it yet.
