Yes. Perish the thought of riding a manly bike.

Only two bikes? Imagine trying to explain this lot to your Significant Other.

And imagine the interbicycle conversations that might be going on in there!

Always thought of bikes as female.

Many years ago I built up a bike for my then girlfriend, myself being a club rider and blithely assuming that the world knew that "proper" bikes had triangulated frames with a top tube, and our female club members rode such things as a matter of course. She did ride it, but it only took a passing oik to say to his mate, "why's she riding a man's bike then?" for her to take a dislike to it. " I'm not riding that male bicycle any more!" she said. A vision of a bike equipped like this came unbidden to my mind.

I came across a nice Mixte frame some time later and built the bits into that. She did ride that a lot, so there's something to be said for @Gwylan's point.

The whole marital issue is easily dealt with… just make sure your spousal unit has a really, really nice bike or two. When they complain about the arrival of yet another machine in the garage simply install some nice upgrade on theirs.

a really smooth operator makes sure said upgrade is in place before the other new addition is even noticed.

Frau Fritz loves her e-bike and the nice wicker saddle bags haven’t even been installed yet.

and she still hasn’t noticed the new Dura Ace carbon wheels on one of my rides, maybe never will.

New wheels are easy - I upgraded from Aksium to Ksyrium - looked more or less the same. I did have my full suspension in the garage for about 18 months before MrsF discovered it when in the garage giving a load of kids toys to my niece. Niece said, 'oh there are a lot of bikes in here', then MrsF counted... hmmm one more than I'm aware of (the full sus was bought shortly after fracturing my spine).

I have mentioned a possible purchase for more bike packing adventures though.

MrsF does have two bikes. A nice hybrid and a full sus BMC Four stroke with XT and SLX (a friend is short and was selling it - it's way too small for me despite me being 5' 9"

I can be wearing a cycling top I‘ve had for a couple of years and she will ask “ Where did that come from”
“ You bought me it for Christmas 2 years ago “ 🤣🤣🤣

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
It was our kitchen fitter who caused an issue from SWMBO by commenting that we had far more than he did when repairing parts of the bike shed as an additional job. And he's in my cycling club!

I have 8 bikes. They are all clean, maintained, oiled and are individually, tooled up ready to go. They are all under covers. All I need to do is check the tyres and go.

Its a form of transport. Not a relation.
What do they use, a flick knife, or the good old fashioned pool ball in a sock? 😂

When I had one bike, things were peaceful. But then one day that bike had a problem and had to commute on the train. That me thinking about a backup bike.

A second bike was added as a backup while I continued using the first bike. Then one day, the first bike had another problem so I used the 2nd bike. But I didn't fix the first bike and one day the 2nd bike had a problem so I had to commute on the train. This gave me two ideas: firstly, I should fix those two bikes, but just in case both bikes had a problem in future, I would need a third bike.

And then I realised it wasn't a problem with the number of bikes. It was a problem with me. And so, if iced the problem with me but I kept the bikes!

All my bikes are ready to ride at any point. So I can't use that excuse.

Yup mine are too. The story above was from years ago when I was getting hoodwinked into that n+1 malarkey. Now, I know it's just about the ride, and for that, like your bikes, all my bikes are well maintained and ready to roll anytime.
