I agree - they are sold a package of the image and lifestyle that they will be presenting to others if they buy that car/4x4.
The truth is that no one would buy a product if it had any sort of negative connotation in its branding.
Faberge couldn't quite understand why their very popular range of body sprays branded 'Body Mist' wasn't selling in Germany until someone pointed out that 'Mist' means 'shoot' in German.
The same happened to Rolls Royce when they tried to sell the Silver Mist there.
The biggest 4x4 on sale which I'm aware of in the UK is the Toyota Landcruiser 'Amazon'. All pale into insignificance when compared to what they drive over the states. The 'Escalade' is hardly a tough sounding name, but one of the bigger 4x4s I saw over there.
We can do cycle names if you want really 'tough' ones
