Reporting back for duty.
Aldi shop completed. On my last Aldi run I picked up a couple of pizza subs and at 99p for 2 they are excellent......so I got another 2 this morning.
The burning question for today is........
Why did I just wash my hands AND THEN decided I needed a wee? Why couldn't I have wanted my wee before washing ? Maybe its the running water that does it.

Wet here so my plan to join club ride binned as I'm a fair weather cyclist at the best of times but in Aug I draw the line.
I'll head out solo later when it clears and roads dry.

I never planned to go. Injury had pushed me into a desk job in a sub department of CID, and while I wasnt exactly thrilled with it I was still doing something useful and felt like I was contributing.

Then along came that weenis Tom Winsor as HMIC, and he proposed bobbies injured on duty and permamently unfit for full duties should be sacked to save money. So me, a victim of GBH for putting myself between a woman and an abuser and receiving broken bones and nerve damage necessitating three lots of surgery could have ended up unemployed for doing exactly what I had sworn to the minarch to do when I was hired.

Sod that, I wasnt waiting to get anally invaded so I went on a medical instead, jumped with a decent payout before I could be pushed without one. And so did thousands like me. So not only did that idiot's idea to save money cost the Home Office tens of millions in injury pensions, it was challenged in court and found to be unlawful under rhe equality act, further costing them millions in compensation. As far as my bank account goes that prat (who never walked a beat in his life) is the gift that just kept on giving. Because it was so unexpected it took a good long while to adjust, and its only this year that I've started to feel truly at ease with myself over the whole situation.

If it werent for that id have carried on working, earning and contributing, and retired about now. Instead I ended up retired a decade ago with very little plan to do so, better off financially than if they'd simply left me alone.

Yup - people who think they know everything about a profession that they have never been in are just wonderful in government

When I started as a teacher I noticed that there were very few teacher over about 50 - there was a cut off age

turned out that some years before all teachers over 50 were given the option to retire with a full pension now rather than stay on to 60
it was, apparently, to re-invigorate the profession
what it meant was that all the experience and knowledge b******d off quick
and - due to amazingly good thinking by central government - it turned out that the Teacher's Pension people were not responsible for making up the massive increase in pension payment
so the Local Authorities were liable for it and had no choice to take the money for the new pensions - AND any extra they were now entitled to after 60 - from their notoriously vast coffers

I did talk to quite a few supply teacher that were living the dream - still teaching but only the hours they wanted - and earning far more without the responsibilities

I had to keep going until I was 58 - but did manage to grab extra pension due to a "wind down" allowance

now I'm sort of awake - plans for the day

It will be raining down (edited!)

but yesterday we put together the first set of new shelves for the shed
One of the advertised benefits is that they do not need any nuts, bolts or screws
they have "tabs" that slot into small loops on the legs

which means you have to line up 4 small tabs into 4 small loops of metal on a frame that is fairly wobbly until you manage to get 2 or 3 of the shelves on
personally I would find it a damn site easier if it had a few bolts and nuts!!

still - they seem pretty solid once put together

anyway - first job today will be to clear all the stuff from teh current rubbish shelves and move them out
then put the new ones in in a break in the rain
which will require 2 of use to move them - they are light and easy to move - but unless you are very careful the tabs come out - but once they have some weight on them they will work fine

2 tip trips yesterday and I can see more coming up today
luckily our lot don;t check and prat about with things like that!

As of 30 minutes ago I have joined you lot.

After 44 years full time work with jobs before that (including working in a bike shop) I thought the time had come…..

And the good thing is: you can't get sacked in this new occupation so , enjoy.
