An post in the Weight watcher thread comparing some food companies to drug dealers around school reminded me of something
WHen I started teaching in a "school in a seaside resort" - a term which is well known in terching
anyway - I was warned about one particular kid
he was a major pain - has a "following " and an attitude
turns out his Dad was one of the big local drug dealers
but he was determined that his son and the other kids his kids knew would not start "using" or anything
so he made sure that the dealers never dealt near the school during term time
and if they did then they regretted it
which is one of those things that makes you think
Oh right - thanks - that helps - good thing to do
but............
later on one of the TAs was part of a strange family
quite a few of them but they came in 2 parts
the first group that was a credit to teh community and worked as things like TAs and carers and partipated in litter picks and charity works and all that stuff
and the other half that worked for a Drug Dealer that was SO big that he appeared on the BBC main news several times
she looked after the kids in the isolation room for a while and came to the staffroom one lunchtime looking "very tired"
when we asked if she was OK she said
"no - the kids have been terrible today - had to call senior management 5 times
shouldn;t moan too much though
it's only right that I am there as I am related to nearly all of them and half of them call be Auntie!!!"
That town could be strange!!!
(should note - we had some lovely and amazing kids as well!!!)
