I want knemof those big chrome coffee machines that grinds the beans, make all the noises, and emit huge volumes of steam.

I have a friend who spent over £2500 on an all singing all dancing beast.

Takes about 15 minutes to make 2 piddly cup fulls that he raves about, but that tastes meh to me.

Fairly cruddy day it's a yellowy-grey sky with drizzle out there.

Some gym is planned, daughter is due to phone for a catch-up. Will phone my BF later for a catch-up, too.

How exciting. Not how I really saw retirement panning out, tbh.

Happy days, all.

I have looked into getting a machine but decent machines are way too expensive for my 1 cup a day to justify.......same with the cleanup process for 1 Cup.
Agreed, this is why I went for my option. Moka pot £30, Krups grinder £50 - 60, the Dualit Milk Frother Max (I kid you not) is £100 but my lad bought that.

Even if I bought the lot it would be less than £200, the Sage machines I looked at start at £600 which I couldn't do for one cup a day.....no matter how good.

My daughter has one of these,

and I have to admit it makes a good mug of coffee but it's a bit OTT for me, I'm a man of simple tastes and I just like a good mug of coffee americano stye with maybe a hint of milk, I do however like to try different coffee's and she dose have a good selection of beans.

Done my shop but have my usual gripe about stores having no stock of common items.
1. Aldi. No steam in the bag veg (multi pack).
No ice cream lollies.... after me saying how nice they are.
2. Iceland. No Tassimo grande coffee pods.

It happens all too often and is a real pita.

Yeah, something like that, but excessively bigger!

It's not the machine that counts, it's freshness and roast date, origin of the beans, processing method, bean variety, there are four main types of bean sold commercially but the likelihood is the coffee most people drink comes from only two varieties, Arabica and Robusta as they make up about 99% of all coffee beans sold and finally roast level. It's a bit of a rabbit hole if you really want to get into it. So you can spend thousands to impress friends and family but still make a shite cup of coffee.

Gaveroche.....after your cataract ops were your eyes affected by light ?
Mine were very sensitive for maybe 10 days and even now they react badly 1st thing ie when I wake up and put the bedside lamp on. I have to sit eyes closed for some 20 seconds before I gradually open them.
It doesn't bother me as I sort of expect a reaction and things are improving daily.

No, no side effects at all. Everything back to normal. I still need reading glasses but I was told about that before the op.
The only time light was too bright is straight after the op, when I was coming home but that's all.

I find the whole coffee 'scene' a bit bizzarre, all that effort to make something that tastes no different to a cup of instant, imo.

And as for people buzzing and bouncing off the walls post-a-tiny-cup-of-coffee, that sounds like a collective myth people have bought into for FOMO.

That’s the same as ours pictured on the previous page. Sister in law works at Waitrose so she kindly used her discount card when purchased ours at John Lewis.

No effort involved beyond saying to Mrs D the magic words, "make us a posh coffee please!"

Instant coffee is foul stuff and gives me indigestion and when I was a runner it would give me the sh!ts.
