Elevenses! Instead of coffee I'm having squash. Very refreshing. The sun came out, so I stripped the beds and first load has just finished, coloured wash followed by towels next. Insurance sorted and saved £110. Result! The AA for Mrs P and M&S for me, for some reason the AA increased mine from £194 to £253 since Sunday. I don't get that but M&S use the same insurer. Weird.

My peas have popped up, just waiting for my beans to burst through now. Pleased with this as I thought it would take longer.

Me and Bruce are going to carry on hoovering and dusting. Now, spiders? Do these creatures really think if they move their webs I won't notice?

Morning all.
Just enjoyed a coffee.
Supposed to be visiting MrsD at 1.0 but thats a bit up in the air as she had a bad night and they had to sedate her. The neurology team are involved today and they are checking to see if she has had a stroke.
I will not be giving a 'blow for blow' account.
Have a good day y'all 🙂
Best o'luck to the pair of you.
Take care of yourself.

Expensive month for me too as I made the mistake of clicking annual payment for my road tax: 180 pounds instead of clicking the monthly one at 15 pounds. When I phoned the DVLA to try and correct it, they said I would have to phone my bank and cancel the DD and do a new one. Can't be bothered with that so I let it go. We are also going to the Beamish museum near Newcastle next week too and North Devon at the end of the month, to our daughter's for a few days, so high petrol bill in May too.
Like I said, expensive month this month.
Me too, paid mine in one lump last month, oh no wait a minute, mine is £0. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

I eventually toddled off for a short walk.

Met a nice guy en-route and stopped for a long chat and then ditto with two very old ladies.

Quite pleased with my effort. Not many miles (4.37), ascent just over 1000' @ 3.2mph.

Hissed down for about 40% of the route.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm in a similar position with car insurance as I will be going from a declared occupation of a journalist on about 12,000 miles a year to retired and about 3,000.

One might think a reduction is in order, but I've heard, as you found, being retired and reducing the mileage doesn't always help the insurance.

How premiums are worked out defies rationality, but I was told increasing age and driving at different times of the day might have something to do with it.

Oh, and I have a black car, which apparently is the colour most likely to be involved in an accident.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

My car is black as well. £178 for the year for me

Just watched an advert for the new Google folding phone...

...£1700!!!

What a bonkers price for a phone.

Mind you, I don't ever pay more than £200 for one and the current one was £190 reduced to £130 in a mad one day sale.
That's the price of the basic one.

Been playing hookey from this thread for a while as I went down to New Mexico for a week to help my sister do a couple of things in her yard and generally visit. She has had some kind of leukemia that is very slow acting but the last month has seen it worsening fairly quickly and she tires very easily. She is planning a trip in September for a week in Paris though, and I will have to go down to care for her dog and cockatiel, I fear. I drove from Albuquerque NM to Denver CO yesterday, but had to wait in a little town along the way for an hour or so because there was a major thunderstorm in Denver with a couple of tornado touchdowns and it was better to wait that out.
Albuquerque has more than 400 miles of bike routes and one is about 20 miles long in the Rio Grande Bosque. (Bosque is a Spanish word referring to the trees and vegetation found next to rivers in the arid high desert). The path is flat and straight and the mornings were still and warm so I enjoyed 4 days of 20 mile rides spinning out as fast as I could go on my Brompton P line. Very nice change from the hills and twists and turns of my Casper routes.
I will hang out here for a few days and go home on Saturday. Hopefully I won't go anywhere else for a while and can get some stuff done at home. Maybe even stay current on this thread.
Bien venidos to all the new folks making the retirement plunge and best wishes for Mrs Dave 7. Hasta luego!

Quick update.....I promise not to labour things.
The Doctor asked me to go in asap. MrsD is sedated but they are giving her hours, maybe days.
I have come back home and left son and daughter with her.
2 1/2 hours was enough for now.

Please feel free to talk about it if you want to. There’s nothing worse than coming home to an empty house after upsetting hospital visits. :hugs:
