Mrs @BoldonLad, and, her family are Roman Catholics, so, I am sometime called upon to attend weddings/funerals/christenings. The two things I notice is:

- the dressing in black dark colours for funerals is becoming less common

- lots of people who attend (including me) have absolutely no idea what to "do", so, they are clearly not regular attendees

Mrs @BoldonLad is a solid believer, me, equally solid non-believer. We just don't discuss it, we just accept that we are each entitled to our own view.

I do agree with dress colour, but some people don't want it to be a "solemn occasion", but more of a celebration of their life.

As for not knowing what to do/act, I'm surprised how many don't know the Lord's prayer yet they like to shout “ This is a Christian Country”.............., I won't see it, but not for long.

The Express doesn't like the BBC anyway.

I don't like the BBC either, at least not enough to buy a licence.

No disrespect to your relationship intended but I honestly could not be in a relationship with a Believer, for want of a better description.

Same with politics too, unless similarly aligned I couldn't do it.

No offence, or whatever the right word would be, taken.

I think I agree on the Politics side, I don't think I could stand it if the alignment was extremely different, particularly if there was constant comments about it, as there tends to be.

Probably, to me, the religion thing is similar, although our views are just about as far apart as it is possible to be, we just do not discuss it, and, there is never any attempt to "convert" me.

We are (both) second marriage, so, some of the RC "rules" had to be ignored anyway, plus, Mrs @BoldonLad's mark1 husband was a fervent RC, while, at the same time, being a waste of space (a bit mild, but, not sure what I can actually say on here). He abandoned his three daughters, among other things. So, I may have my faults (can't actually think of any, modesty, perhaps ;) ), but, I am an improvement on him, despite my lack of RC credentials ;) .

Seriously, if we had actually had children together (which we don't), I can see that there may have been differences (eg education, church attendance, venue for marriage) which would have been impossible to compromise on (eg you cannot half attend a RC School). But, we were too old when we met (40), to want to repeat the "having children" experience.

Mrs @BoldonLad's siblings, and their partners are all more or less "boomers" (ie 1943 - 1956 spread of birth dates). All of the siblings (and partners, except me) still attend church regularly. However, at the "next level" ie nieces/nephews, I am not aware that any of them attend church, except on occasions (like Christmas) to keep their parents sweet. At the next level ie children of nieces/nephews, the "drop out" rate is even greater.

The above does not mean they don't believe of course, but, it certainly appears to me that "The Church" as an organisation is in major decline.

I do t do politics, neither does Mrs D. We've both been on this planet long enough to see that if something good happens it's usually despite politicians, not because of them, so neither of us have any time for it.

Mrs D's younger brother, who is a nice guy, is a raving lefty and it annoys him immensely that we won't be drawn into political discourse when we visit. To him not taking a side automatically makes us tories in his eyes!

To be fair though a clever guy and quite insightful, and a lot of political stuff does play out exactly as he predicted. I told him he should try and get a job as an advisor or the like, pretty sure he'd work his way up quite quickly.

So we don't talk politics, don't talk religion, and as a resukt have genuinly never had a raised voice between us in the 19 years weve been together. We both had enough drama to last us each a lifetime in previous relationships and prefermto spend our time discussing nice things...or doing bedroom gymnastics ;)

A full requiem mass is about and hour long has it will have Holy Communion in with the service.

Thankfully, it was just the abridged version and there were only a few little differences to what I am used to. It was a very nice service. Saw another couple of ladies from the area heading down so walked down and sat with them. Only lasted about 45 minutes and I knew the hymns/psalm. A fitting send off for someone who was born and lived 90 years here.

Beans on toast for lunch then I should really have another wander, although it’s very muggy out.

Interesting.

During my working life (sorry) I spent sometime working in former USSR, and, what is now Ukraine. One of the people I worked alongside was almost the same age as myself. We spent a lot of time "comparing notes" on our respective life time experiences.

Whilst I, brought up in UK, (not in the most affluent of areas), had a much more "rich" life, in material terms, than he had, it was remarkable that the "ebb and flow" of relative affluence coincided remarkably closely. Working on the assumption that neither Harold McMillan or Harold Wilson were governing USSR at the time, I concluded, perhaps they had nothing to do with it ;)

I like the 'mark 1' terminology - not a term we have used for our former marital partners. Might give it a try though. ^_^

we often have a little joke along those lines.

Mrs @BoldonLad is from a large family (10), with 6 brothers.

Mr @BoldonLad Mk1 was, apparently, singularly inept.

She has a healthy disdain for the ability of men, in general, to do anything.

If I have been doing some Gardening or DIY task (eg, recently, changing a kitchen tap), she will appear, when the task is done, and, in a surprised voice, say, "well done, aren't you clever" or some such. Normally, laughingly, I reply, something along the lines of "you are married to Mk2 now, not Mk1, I can actually do things, if you just show patience, and don't remind me constantly". ;)

Yes - I keep telling SWMBO that she only has to ask me to do a job once and it will get done

she doesn;t need to keep nagging me about it every 6 months!!!

BTW - I am her 3rd - first one was a waste of space - apparently
2nd one was not much better - especially financially - and ended up having an affair with a woman where he worked - which was a hospital and she was known as a ladt who has slept around

to be fair they are apparently still together so I suppose that should count for a little bit
although my wife still classifies him alongside serial killers!
If he turns up at a family thingy you could cook burgers using the sparks from her eyes in any of the grandkids go over to talk to him - although to be fair they pretty much have to be told to do so!

She was delighted once when one of them fell over on the dance floor and ran directly to me crying for Pops (me) right past he ex!

anyway - lets just say I am a big improvement - which was an extremely low bar!

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I have returned. My daughter was here this morning, then we dropped her off at the bottom of the road at 12 as she was going to see a neighbour then carried on to the Metropolis of Newtown. We braved Aldi. We didn't go Into Iceland or Morrisons. I was pleasantly surprised by the items and the cost. There are odds and sods that I can't get there, but I can always go to Morrisons for them.

The meat was def cheaper in Aldi than in Morrisons or Iceland
