In 1976 I was living in a bedsit in the Earlsdon part of the city, I think my landlord was renting a ground floor flat and was illegally sub letting rooms, but I'm not sure. I was running round on a new MZ 250 motorbike that I'd borrowed money from where I was working to buy, I was working in a small radio and TV workshop, I was running the stores.
MZ TS 250? I had a friend who expired through too much drink and whatever else. He was an MZ devotee and owned several during the late 70's, he was a fan of the Soviet Republic. He raced an ETS 250 Trophy sport at Darley Moor and Three Sisters tracks in the production class.
A friend and I ported the engine and the stewards did not notice the 38mm Mikuni carburettor or the expansion chamber tapers inserted into the humungous exhaust pipe. That bike wheelied on throttle in 1st and 2nd gears, the power band was so narrow it was like a switch being thrown.
I took the pee out of his DDR produced transport and race bikes but I had grudging respect, MZ used to be the winning bike in the ISDT often enough.
Edited for snipped inclusion of envy statement to another post. My phone screen is too hot to touch.
