I couldn’t get on with a line feed strimmer .It either didn’t feed the line or fed to much.Borrowed one with plastic blades that was quite good.
I was in America and was talking to a neighbour of my stepson he was mowing the lawn .He said just got to get the weed eater out to do the edges I showed my ignorance of things American and asked what a weed eater is.He showed me .I said we call it a strimmer. He said well mine eats weeds . On the strength of that we enjoyed a bottle each of Blue Moon beer.Actualy over the week we had a few beers together🍺🍺🍺

I've looked at bladed ones, a lot of the blades look like plastic cable ties and I'm wondering how long do they last and how much of a faff it is changing them.

Managed to assemble my garden table and bench set. What a faff!
Instructions in Chinglish, or some such mangled idiom and diagrams unintelligible.
Good job I've got some woodworking and engineering background and the proper tools.
Hate to think how some of the younger kids would fare trying to sort it out.
Still, it's all done now and seems to be up to the job. :okay:

I also assembled a barbeque which had a trial run this evening.
Busy. busy.

QUick rant - sorry

We had a problem with the kettle -which is clearly an essential part of the kitchen!!
Basically it is only 6-6 months old but keeps switching off after it is switched on - not properly switching off but just stopping - then starting again
or not in which case it would start again with some fiddling
clearly faulty and possibly not totally safe!

Anyway - we knew it came from Currys - not 100% sure which branch though and we couldn;t find the receipt
But whatever - I went to the one that we go to the most (Speke) and explained
Bloke at Curtomer Service asked if it came from Currys
Yes
Checked everything registered on our postcode - found a kettle from 4 months ago - made by Brevil and hence our Russel Hobbs kettle was clearly not from them!!
to prove it he showed me the screen
Clearly showing about 10 items from number 21 (our road) followed by our address with is further down teh road but same surname (Who knew!!!)
So - clearly he has
a) not looked at the screen properly - it was very clear
b) has never heard of any privacy laws!!!

bloke standing next to him looked at the kettle in question and immediately commented
"We have never sold that kettle here EVER"
Now - me being me I had already checked and had seen that exact kettle on the display in the store AT THAT MOMENT
But, of course, he might have been mistaken but was still being rude
So I commented in a polite manner that there was actually one on display as I had just checked
He replied - in a rude tone that he had been there for ages and they had NEVER sold that kettle
so I replied in a slightly louder and far more definitive manner (ex teacher - I can do that) that there was actually one OVER THERE on the shelf
He walked off (more like stormed off) in the direction of the kettles - never returned

Anyway - back to the bloke that was actually serving me
he repeated that there was no kettle against our postcode on their system - and without that or teh receipt they would not exchange or refund anything
I confirmed that the was faulty but he inisted that there was nothing they could do
He also confirmed that his system checked anything bought from any branch - including the other one that could ahve been a possibility
he was certain of this and refused to go any further!!

So I walked out and went home

When I got home I thought to check my credit card statements online
and I found the transaction there - from 7 months ago

but from the other store near where the grandkids live (and their parents as well - obviously)

so I went there

Totally different response
WHen he couldn;t find the kettle on the postcode he tried otrher ways of searching
and found teh transaction on my credit card - I actually had the statement with me but he was trying that before I got as far as getting it out

as soon as he found it he suggested I go over to the display and see if there was one there - there was but no box - so he went 'in the back' and found one for me
and exchanged it with no bother

all quite easy and using information available to any employee on the customer service counter

all of which could have been done at the first store

a slightly modified version of this will be going to Currys - just need to find out who to send it to!

This evening I had my first attempt at making icing. I used the Gold Strike Liqueur as the liquid medium and 100g of icing sugar to make a nice smooth paste. To be honest, it's not my best work, bringing back memories of when patterned artex ceilings where a thing. Taste test tomorrow as I've put my hammer drill on charge overnight as a precaution 🤔

All complaints go to head office, c/o Mr Couldntgiveashit.
Best of luck with that.

I have risen! Raining heavily here in Poshshire.

Why in the name of all the Gods am I up????

somehow I read the clock as saying nearly 8
when I got downstairs and had had my pills and made first coffee I looked at it is nearly 7!!!!

builders are due around 8 ish - so I like to be up and alert not to sound like an idiot before they arrive
(OK - sound not too much like and idiot - can;t change nature!!)

Was going to cut the grass and clean the windows and gutter today, but the weather has other ideas. It's been a busy few days and I'm physically tired and achy from it so I'll make the most of the weather enforced lay off for a restful day.

Off up the Drummers Arms at lunchtime for a swift Guinness.

And most gratified to see that my new garage roof is 100% water tight.
