Been for a ride with my stepson who is 20 years younger than me. 32kms done and the age difference really shows. We stopped at a sea side cafe in Pen but they don't take cards so we went without. I don't understand places that don't take cards, they must lose a fair bit of business like that.

Yep. Up until maybe 10 years ago I was a cash user, but I can’t even remember when I last paid anything in cash. I keep some in the house just in case but it’s not been touched since I gave a plumber £40 for a quick cash job.

Even popping back and forward to the supermarket now I just use my watch and don’t even have my card on me.

I know - my wife's hairdresser doesn;t take cards and pretty much every time I end up dropping her off and having to whizz up to the cashpoint so she can pay
Of course - a cynical person might point out at this point that this means the money comes out of my account rather than hers but I clearly would not do that

Over the pandemic - or more accurately after it - I noticed that nearly all the local shops on the high street started taking them - even the market stalls (indoor anyway) now take cards

My local chippy only accepts cash. (Not that I use it very often).

I always carry a couple of hundred in cash.
Never know when it's needed.

On the flip side, I've noticed that most shops / sales establishments now tend to assume that payment will be by card.

You can tip with most cards these days. There's a setting on the PDQ for that.
