Is a competition to see who can carry two very big stones the furthest! I kid you not. 🤣

Apparently the origins of tossing the caber are shrouded in the mists of time........I'd suggest the "sport" of stone carrying is even more bloody mysterious!!!!!!
Supposed to have its origin in clearing stones, the old fashioned way, with no mechanical help.

You'll not be trying it out when you get back home then?

welsh dragon

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
8 minutes!

That's ages for goodness sake

We had a problem this morning
We had the grandkids overnight (as stated previously) and I had promised I would take them to the park after breakfast

so I did - I looked afte rthe 2 year old in the baby part and the 6 YO and 10 YO legged it into the "bigger kids" part - I checked on them every few minutes and neither were dead so all was good - I like to start with the basics!

ANyway they spotted that there was a cafe next to the playground that sold Ice Cream and coffee - good marketing if you ask me
so they wanted Ice Cream

SO we got some (I felt I need to join them to set an example!!)

and when the others had finished the baby legged it back to the playground
as it was only a few yards away, I had a clear view of him and he is generally well behaved - I just let him - knowing that he would stop soon and wonder why he was being let wander off on his own
Which he did
but the 10 year old got worried and went over to him - which them caused him to head off into the playground - which was OK

except that I had missed the bit from the older two when they came back before about a water feature - I assumed it was like a drinking fountain

big mistake!!!

the 10 year old decided that her little brother might like the water feature and took him over there just as I was clearing up and getting the 6 year old sorted out

anyway - by the time I found the 2 of them the little one was SOAKED
I mean literally dripping

turns out that the "weater feature" is a series of randomly times foundtinas that spray water jets up, down and sideway in all kinds of directions - and the little monster was having a whale of a time running in and out of everything

which is big brother and sister then followed him doing

no problem was the sun was out

Anyway - then the sun went in and I decided to get everyone back home before their parents came back for them
poor little one was freezing one the sun came out and I had to caryy him back holding him tight to be to keep him warm

their parents turned up just as we had got them into some dry clothes (mixture of pyjamas and stuff from the day before) and stopped the baby shivering - and we were just giving them some lunch while their clothes were in the washing machine on a rise (no idea how pure all that water was!!!)

so they were forced to wait until the clothes were out of the machine

Anyway - quite funny - especially when the oldest asked if we could go shopping on the way home from the park when her little brother was soaked and standing uder a literal shower of cold water while she claimed he wasn;t all that wet!!

Anyway - That's all before people start moaning about my over long stories - as they tend to on another forum I frequent!!!

Yes - of course
and the baby's
and the 2 year old's - he is a bit strange and often prefers the cone to the Ice Cream - so I had most of his scoop of strawberry as well

I had vanilla and cherry

very nice ice cream actually
You monster!
Snatching, ice cream, from the mouth of babe's!!

Today, I am proud to report that we are undertaking that much maligned and often misunderstood pastime of...

... doing Sweet FA.

In all seriousness we love it - 2 hard-working lives spent hard at work in demanding careers and our retirement is primarily R&R - spent chilling and relaxing together.

Obviously there needs to be an element of keeping fit, and there is always some mundanity to deal with in life, but in general we like nothing more than a good old companiable doss.

It's not for everyone, we are close to two couples who just can't sit still. Every day is a walking day or a golf day or a to-do list day ad-infinitum. Both think we waste too many days. As background, both couples are in marriages where the fires of passion dimmed long ago and they find it difficult to just be together for any length of time. One couple is also suffering from 'empty nest' syndrome.

As ever, each to their own, but we are happy that every day does not have to be filled with outdoor activities, meeting up with people or wading throuh a list of tasks.

So, fellow retirees, what do you think of having a lovely doss as a way of spending retirement?

It works for me, less so for Mrs exlaser , that’s why she is still working 😂😀
