Met a few friends after our walk this morning and ended up in the beer garden of a local pub. Not seen them for a while and there was the usual banter about grey hair / getting older / ailments etc. One of the lads mentioned that he thought he could pass for Paul Newman, and I said I'd been offered a job as a stunt double for Richard Gere, as we looked strikingly similar. All complete bullsh*t of course, but about half an hour later a lady approached our table and asked me " Excuse me, but are you Richard Gere ? " I stood up and thanked her for the compliment but I was sorry to disappoint her. It turned out she'd been sitting with a group of lady friends in another area of the garden and had overheard our conversation, then bided her time before passing our table on her way to the bar and " mistaking " me for the said actor. 😂

Clean the spark plug, and make sure it is gapped correctly.

I've built more engines over the years than I care to think of - this one included.
It won't start because the ignition switch has fallen apart. I'll try to hotwire it before I order a new switch.

I think the state of the crankshaft seals and crankcase compression after sitting so long is a bigger concern, although it's not without hope.

I rebuilt this engine just before it was decommissioned, using modern seals. They should be OK as they are not prone to perishing like the original ones.

Interesting bikes. Folk think theyre British bikes. Well, they are, but not in origin. The British stole the design and tooling from DKW at the end of the war and it was sold here as the Bantam.

Except that the Bantam engine is a mirror image of the DKW engine - so a lot of the tooling had to be remade.
Interesting fact - the BMW car industry was founded on a car which was a copy of the Austin 7.

Well - we're back home

Grandkids arrived just after 8 this morning - SWMBO doesn;t sleep well so it was just be until 10
fed all 3 of them - including a porridge explosion in the microwave

Then - once SWMBO was up
Oh hang on - THREE grandkids and they are all terrible at waking people up - I send them up an 9:55 to wake her up and they all came down saying they couldn;t!!!
I mean - kids are MADE to wake adults up - these 3 seem to be incapable of it so I had to do it myself!!

anyway - she had a hair appointment to 12 and it turned out that there was a rush on and so it took3 1/2 hours - no idea why - I mean - it must have grown out a measurable amount by the time she left!


Anyway - took the kids to a playground after lunch (which was a success in spite of some initial complaints!) and got the kids back home about n hour late - whcih gave their Mum a bit of free time to herself.

Then we went for a discounted Toby Carvery curtsey of Groupon - no way I was cooking after a day with those 3!!

Noticed that - apart from 1 other bloke - I was the lightest man in there by about 5-6 stone at least!!!
