Morning folks :okay: i'll be glad when the spider season is over the ****ers make me jump! if someone had a pet tarantula i wouldnt have a problem with holding it in my hand but dont like the hairy r'sed beasties surprising me in the bathroom or legging it across the living room  Weathers good for a ride so will do my 30 miler this morning :okay:

There was a huge one in my bath this morning but it was dead. Don't know if it was natural causes or Miss Molly that killed it  🐱

Reasonably cool for my early walk but the sky is clear and the sun is out and it's already warming up.

One of my electric meters has stopped working so I will have to contact Ovo and get someone out. No doubt it will mean getting a smart meter fitted. Might have to relent and have one anyway for those of us who still have storage heaters probably won't get access to the cheaper tariffs unless we do. My head is spinning reading about it all. The telemetry switching for storage heaters is scheduled to get done away with by 1st April next year

Well....back to earth with a bang after a fabulous weekend.
Mixed emotions as 1st time I've been away since Sue passed away......so to see our son get married, without her being by my side was difficult to say the least.
But, as I said, it was a fabulous weekend.

Local clanger alert!

The next village along has had a bypass built, and very nice it is too. The place feels like a village again.

There are now 7.5t weight limit signs on the village road, but some numpty has forgotten to put the "except local access" caveat on them, so dustcarts, the school buses, and the tanker delivering to the petrol station can't now legally enter the village!

The dibble would love to turn a blind eye to it but can't, because if they allowed a truck through and it ran someone over it'd be them in the sheet. So, there's now a mad scramble to get the correct signage and check the correct legal status has been granted to the road and that these vehicles can get in.

Wish they could bypass Crieff too! So busy up the town now compared to when I first moved here.

Must be 40 years now from a village called Dunning 15 miles away. Sometimes wish I could go back to village life to be honest.

Fully understand that. When I/we moved to Warrington it was a lovely small town. Then the powers above declared it a "new town"......population now is 250,000 +.
The b*stards that decided it probably live in their nice country houses.

Decided to be good and go for a ride while it is nice weather

SO got the bike out - have been meaning to pump the tyres up a bit for a while so started to do it
Front tyre was being a pain - couldn;t force any air in at all
fiddled with it and finally cleared some tyre sealent from the valve and pumped it up - removed the pump connector and the air promptly came back out again!!

after a lot of faffing with various tools I got the valve core out and replaced it then though it was better to just chuck another inner tube in
so that was OK - bit of a delay and mucky hands but..

so set off

got over the bridge and noticed that the front wheel looked weird - looked like it was a bout one inch to the left of the centre line
tried the brakes (and yes - I had used them before but both at once) and it felt like there was not the normal power in them
stopped and fiddled with the wheel and brake pads - ended up with the wheel not going back on at all
more fiddling
got it back on and working

turned the back back the right way up and tried to start up
pedals locked - chain had decided that this was the ideal time to jam itself firmly between the chain ring and the frame
and the chain guard was perfectly positioned to get in the way !
dismantled the chain guard and fixed the chain using the old favourite - brute force

Then had to get the chain guard back on
It uses 2 plastic push things to fix itself in place - really designed for single use I think but you can;t get replacements as far as I can tell
LBS mutters something about "not sure where I would get them" when I raise the issue so they keep getting re-used - a right faff to get on or off!!!

anyway - eventually got going again with all working - only a very slight squeak once per revolution that I decided to ignore for the next 2 hours as clearly the bike was in no mood to be helpful and more fiddling was likely to involve walking home!

Ride was nice after that - lots of canal boats parked up - sorry moored - and travelling along the canals
