My FiL is a retired police inspector, and in two years he'll have been claiming the pension for longer than he was paying in to it. We shall throw a little party when he gets there.

I have had at least partial success with my dispute with OVO. They have sorted the incorrect meter reading so I am now in credit and no longer £3,000 in debt! I still have a dispute re a figure at the bottom of the bill labelled balance adjustment which wiped out most of the considerable credit I had with SSE.
Oh, and there’s a snag getting smart meters in this area due to signalling issues so I’ve avoided that too at least for a while.

15 years for me.
The last couple of years have been sh*t for a number of reasons but as others have said, some poor buggers only get a few months.
Similar here. I took it aged 62......I'm 76 now.

Mr WD has a friend he has known for the best part of 70 years. His wife had stomach cancer during the lock down and passed away. She was only 70 by had only been retired for 5 or 6 years before she passed.
It was far more common 50 years ago when the factories were In full swing. Particularly to men. They only lasted maybe a year or 2 before they died. Working in the factories was a hard life and it was so sad that after finally reaching retirement, they never lived long enough to enjoy it.

I'm waiting for Octopus to take over from Shell. I pay by variable direct debit (ie pay monthly for what I used the previous month). If they don't offer that, I'm looking elsewhere. I don't like a fixed amount every month, they always over estimate and why should I pay a fortune in summer for them to get extra interest on it.
I took early retirement, finished in December instead of the following May so only 5 months early. Prior to that I'd been working a three day week for about seven years. I once met an old gentleman who had worked out how much National Insurance he'd paid over his working life, and how long he needed to live to get it all back in State Pension 😂
I'm with Octopus and while they nag you from time to time about setting up a Direct Debit they don't insist on it. I pay monthly on the first of the month as that's when the household bills go out ( council tax, water, house insurance etc )
