I remember going to a parents evening at our youngest daughter's school ( she's in her 40's now ) where the subject of " suitable dress " was brought up. Some of the older girls were coming to school and rolling up the waistbands of their skirts so they were more of pelmet than a skirt.
When I was a teacher ina Secondary school all the girls - except one - wore trousers
Until it was a hot summer when most of then switched to short skirts - much to the annoyance of the boys who were still forced to wear trousers
Anyway - one year I had a form group that was "interesting" - I got on well with them but they needed to be kept an eye on
One girl - lets call her Mary because I never taught a Mary - wore a short skirt - but always rolled it up to a silly extent - she was also generally orange so you know the type!
Now clearly a male teacher has little leeway about checking skirt lengths on teenage girls - so if we thought it was too short then we sent them to the Head of Year who was female and quite strict - so they didn;t want that
So - this summer pretty much every day I puller Mary up and she roller her skirt down
One day she was a little bit later than usual so I was checking the register and hence facing away from the room door and I heard her walk in - she had shoes that made a distinctive noise
I didn;t turn round and just paused teh register and said "Skirt Mary" and carried on
She walked past me rolling her skirt down and complaining (she like to do that) "Sir!!! you didn;t even LOOK!"
I just looked at her - in the eyes - and commented "So - you want an old, bald fat bloke looking at your legs???"
The rest of teh class collapsed laughing - and she managed a good combination of laughing and moaning as she walked to her seat while sorting her skirt out
She was a right pain in the neck but you could have a laugh with her!
Other highlight of the class was one of the boys who managed to loose 6 pairs of shoes in 2 terms!!!!
His Mum was going mental and he was trying to hide it by coming in in his trainers (NOT allowed) but keeping his feet out of sight so we wouldn;t ring his Mum
didn;t work - but it was funny watching him try it!
anyway - what was the topic???
