We had roast pork. I'm sure one of my grandsons has a hidden camera in my house. He arrived just as we were putting the food on the table

I'm sure you wouldn't have it any other way

What toastie making machine do you recommend? I hadn't had a toastie machine since the 70's or thereabouts. Keen to use more electric for cooking and cut down on gas usage.

I have used a Kenwood for years. Excellent results but a pain to clean.
I was about to buy a Breville which has excellent reviews and is easy to clean as the hot plates click out for easy cleaning.
Out of the blue my daughter and SiL bought me Salter, for christmas. It has 3 sets of plates for different options. The plates come out for easy cleaning.
The photo is my 1st attempt
TBH I would look at the Breville.

I thought gas was cheaper than electric?
It is usually Mo. Our Gas tariff with Octopus is 6.99 pence per kWh. Since we had the Solar PV and Battery installed in mid November the situation has changed. Had to wait two weeks for a Smart meter installation, and a bit longer for the " Export " meter to be fully commissioned.
Initially I was on the " Flux " plan which meant I could charge my battery at a cheap rate in the early hours of the morning and run the house on during the day for 17p per kWh. If I had any surplus I could export it back to them during the peak period and they would pay me 28p per kWh.

I switched to the " Agile " tariff where the price changes every half hour a week ago, there's an App which automates the tracking of prices and you can set it to automatically charge your battery when the price is low. With all the wind recently there's been a surplus of electricity so at times the price has gone negative and they've been paying me to use electriity and charge the battery. They only pay a few pence per kWh but I've turned the gas water heating off and switched the immersion heater on permanent, run the dehumidifier constantly for Laundry drying and use the tumble dryer for things like towels. We also use the Air Fryer, bread machine, washing machine and dishwasher a lot more especially with having our daughter and grandson visiting over Christmas.

Daily standing charge for electricity is 48p. Our daily electricity costs since last Sunday, including the standing charge have been: 46p - 95p - 36p - £1.53 - 62p - 50p - £1.77. The figures lower than the 48p standing charge are where the cost of the whole days electricity usage has been negative, ( on Tuesday they ended up paying us 12p for all the electricity we used that day, so that amount was deducted from the daily standing charge.

In summary it is the Home battery that has made a real difference, We have a 13.5kWh version which has the added benefit of automatically powering the whole house if there's a power cut, we wouldn't even know that there had been one as the changeover is automatic and instant, and switches back to the Grid automatically when power is restored.
Of course it won't always be this cheap, it depends on the conditions, but I've just told the battery to start charge at 04:30 tomorrow and that will cost me 2p per kWh. 👍

8AM now in Melbourne Downunda.
We went to bed at our usual 10PM and we and Dash the Greyhound were woken at midnight by a series of loud bangs somewhere in our street. Fortunately Dash is not upset by thunder so we all settled down again quite soon.
You slept through the old one going and the new one being delivered?

A gun dog, not a gone dog then.

Well I did not WANT to be up at 0500 but as I have said, I can't just lie in bed while awake.
1st off is 'happy new year' to all old farts. I truly hope 2024 is good to us all.
A chill day is in store for me.
I 'might' get a short stroll in but the weather is very mixed, raining and 6° at the moment and as my name is not Mo this does not encourage me.
See you all later.

DISASTER HAS STRUCK !!!!
I have just noticed that one of my balls has fallen off during the night AND it's the big shiny one .
Just gone into the lounge and one of the balls has fallen off my Christmas tree.
Due to my granddaughter showing me how I have been able to re attach it. Phew.
