Seems like many of us are having a sh*t day.

Mine has gone reasonably well, after my Covid and Flu jabs on Saturday I didn’t feel quite right, slept for 9 hours last night and feel far more energised today.

Worked this morning and now out with Mrs Gunk, I’m enjoying a coffee whilst she digs in to the Christmas shopping. Still reasonably mild down here although the temperatures are dropping later this week.

As well as the drain blockage my right ear is blocked. Happens every now and again.

Earliest I can get in is next Monday, so that is booked.

£70 for literally a 10 minute job, is a nice-earner!

GP no longer carries out ear wax removal.

Rods? Fairy liquid? Best skip the boiling water 🤣🤣

Just to inform you all there are three scams going round,all via email,RAC-AA-Aviva Medical.All offering some form of kit as a gift,i have had all three this last seven days,don't open them delete straight away.This is not one of my jokes i am being serious don't get caught out.

I've been getting loads from the AA saying we have won an emergency kit.
Must of won over a hundred so far.
There are so many scams around, be aware.

Speaking of AA and RAC etc. While my puncture was being fixed the ignition and lights were accidentally left on. The engine started OK and I drove the mile to my son's to collect #2 small person. When I came to leave the battery was drained. Not my day is it?

We're with Autoaid who are highly recommended by Which? Very competitively priced. I can't praise the service highly enough. This is the first time I've called them. It went like this:

1. Call help line
2. Press 1 for new request
3. We will send you a text link or do you want to speak to someone
4. I chose text
5. Immediate text
6. Click link, complete details, submit
7. Within 2 minutes the website shows name of company attending and latest arrival time - within 90 minutes
8. 30 minutes later the guy arrives
9. All good

Then about two hours later I get a call asking if I've been rescued, am I satisfied etc. I've used the AA and RAC in the past. I don't know how they work these days but I've never had service like this before from a rescue company. Superb.

The rain has arrived, and it's due to rain all night and most of tomorrow.
No snow forecast down here, but I suppose any high ground, mountains etc could get snow from now on.

A friend is a fully qualified Alpine guide and is taking clients into the Cumbrian mountains on Thursday.

Wind chill at an altitude as low as 750m is estimated to be -20C.

Proper cold and rather them than me tbh.

Today’s story comes from the BBC Scotland pages talking about, amongst other ships, the Gardyloo, the ship that used to take Edinburgh’s sewage out for dumping into the Forth. When the practice was banned in 1998…

When I first started working in a tall building overlooking the Mersey I noticed some distinctive ships with grey decks sailing up and down the river and I wondered what they were

I was told they were "the poo boats" - but this is Liverpool - believing everything people say is risky!

anyway - turned out that they were right - the transported "untreated sewage" out to sea and dumped it in specific places

When I was off shore sailing from the Wirral - the furthest buoy we sailing round was labelled "sewer"
It was considered best to NOT fall in near that one
the term "Mersey Goldfish" was in common use amoung the boats crews as well


all that has stopped due to regulations

and people still talk about "The Good Old Days"!!!!

I was told they were "the poo boats" - but this is Liverpool - believing everything people say is risky!

anyway - turned out that they were right - the transported "untreated sewage" out to sea and dumped it in specific places

When I was off shore sailing from the Wirral - the furthest buoy we sailing round was labelled "sewer"
It was considered best to NOT fall in near that one
the term "Mersey Goldfish" was in common use amoung the boats crews as well


all that has stopped due to regulations

and people still talk about "The Good Old Days"!!!!

Re: the good old days. Until the 1980’s all sewerage for the area went direct into the River Tyne, with no treatment. There is now (thankfully) sewerage treatment, but, of course the “storm overflow” problem exists. It obviously needs sorting, but, the “good old days” were obviously NOT better! 😊

At least dumping it at sea was better than the even older Good Old Days when the residents of Edinburgh used to just chuck it out of the window ! To warn passers-by below they would shout a warning of with “Gardyloo” , “garde a l’eau”, beware of the water ! The more your wealth the higher up the building you could afford to live.
