A suggestion, not certain that it will work.
Why not log in to the router and rename the SSID (ie the Local Area Network Name, Service Set Identifier, to give it it's Sunday name) to the same as the "old" router. I think that should just make all devices connect to the "new" router without any further changes.
I effectively did this with our home network when I installed a Mesh System to improve wifi coverage. I set the SSID of the Mesh. System to the SSID of the Router. All my devices just connected no problem. A subsequent change of router was painless, just plug in the Mesh System, and, devices connected without further intervention.
Just an idea.

He can;t be bothered with the hassle of changing the SSID and passwords on all the kids thing and doorbell and all the other carp they have around the house
so he just changes the SSID and password the the same as they had on their router many years ago
I can see the point - getting our Solar panels to reconnect can be a pain and involves all sorts of messing about!
