Just been out to get a prescription from the Pharmacy
went on my bike
and managed to annoy someone
not sur ehow I do this but sometime I seem to attract it

I was basically approaching the health centre turning (a right turn) so I was riding in the middle of the road
no traffic in sight at that point
and a taxi pulled out from the health centre to turn right

he didn;t stop at the line - but moved into the road
then saw me (in my white helmet and hi-vis jacket sitting upright and all that) and stopped a few metresinto the road
by now I had slowed a lot but not stopped so I carried on slowly
he moved forward a bit and then stopped again - about half way across the road by now

In the end I went round the front of him and turned right into the health centre
it was a bit 50:50 whether to do that or just stop and wave him out - even though it was clearly my right of way

anyway - as I went past his window he had it wound down and clearly said

owww wahh oowee

so that was clear then - from his expression and hand movement it was clearly my fault
for - erm - something

anyway - I bet his account in the pub tonight is different to mine
and probably include the term "road tax"

I'd prefer to do that than fly with all those with screaming kids, drinking too much, taking up not only their seat but mine as well.

You sound almost as tolerant as me 😊

Personally, Coach to Italy would be my idea of hell. One of my in-laws, did a holiday to Barcelona by Rail. It was a sort of on-land cruise, they visited a few cities, having a few days at each. They enjoyed it. Another of my pals, in a fit of pique with Jet2, took a holiday to Majorca, travelling by Rail (and Ferry). He enjoyed it, not sure if he is still married however 🙂

With you on that. Couldn't bear a coach holiday at all. Especially as we would have to buy a complete wardrobe of older old people's clothes based on the queues of people we see getting on Shearings coaches in Kendal.

Same with cruises; Hell on Earth is the collective viewpoint here. All those people milling about around you, dinner dress codes and naff entertainment - opinion based on viewing a number of cruise types on YT and the experiences related to us by cruise mad-friends. Simply horrible. 😝

But what about sitting next to old guys with guts so large they have to sit with their legs apart, and ladies with ginormous bums?

Seen quite a few of them 'going Shearings'.

I am not really a kid person.

A polarising subject.

We are both in the same camp as you, don't want to know and simply cannot deal with them around us.

We do appreciate that other people get a huge amount of joy by interacting with their grandchildren, etc. And good for them, too.

They are a problem on flights with 3-4 seats wide

but on a coach the seat are only 2 on each side
so it is just me and my wife

unless you are impying that my wife.........

anyway - I didn;t think you had met her

We had just one coach holiday and that was to Scotland.
Generally it was good but there were a few BIG negatives.
1. We were by far the youngest couple on the coach (we were 60 then).
2. There was a single man that had really, REALLY bad BO. So bad one single woman got off and refused to sit near him.
3. Day 2, one single guy didn't turn up. They got the hotel staff to open his door and there he was......dead.

A memorable weeks holiday but not all good

We have been talking about holidays here

We have a problem as "The Wedding" is coming up and we have to avoid that
although neither of us are especially looking forward to it - but clearly she wants to be at her only child wedding - but the rest of it might be a bit wearing

anyway - we are looking at a 1 week trip to Italy - including tours of Pompeii and Herculenium
plus a few other places

Things is - the trip doesn;t involved flying - coach from just down the road all the way to Italy!!
(I presume it goes on a ferry at some point but that is not mentioned)

anyway - company is Shearings

Proper old person holiday company!!!
That isn't the same Shearings of a few years ago. They went bust, and another company bought their shops name, another the coach side of the business name.

Used to work for Wallace Arnold's, who they bought out in early 2005. The new place of work was 20 miles and 70 minutes further to cycle than where I was working at the time, for Wallace Arnold's. A distance that couldn't be cycled, so I went one and did what they said couldn't be done one morning. At the time I'd need to be on the road. I allowed 2 hrs cycling time, but came in under it.
