Started young, and still going.
Location
Barnet,
Good morning all.
Another cloudy start to the day here.
I had an idea last year about travelling from London as far north as possible by train, which is Thurso.
The idea was picked up by other members of the escape committee, so the six of us are doing it in July.
It has expanded a bit with a ferry trip across to Orkney one day and a bus ride to John O'Groats and Wick another.
It's not a cheap trip though, the cost of a travelodge in Inverness and 3 nights in a Premier inn in thurso comes to nearly £500 plus a travelodge in Glasgow on the way home another £134. This is without the train fare and the ferry. Even with senior railcards all round it looks like costing in excess of £900 each.
Still the boys said this is what they wanted to do.
No such thing a cheap holiday anymore. It should be good though.

Morning all :hello:

Hiding in my workshop today and having some nice engine building time whilst listening to Classic FM - very relaxing.
A lot cooler today and a bit windy.

Trains, hotels!, I thought an avid cyclist, such as yourself, would have cycled there and back, with your camping gear 😂

Hope you aren't like my FIL who used to time his trips to the shop at the same time as schools finished for the day. He had all the other times to go to the shops and avoid the traffic.

My two BiLs, both in their mid 70s insist on visiting us over a weekend. Why they won't do mid week is beyond me.
Last time, they came down on Saturday at holiday time and got stuck for 5 hours on the M5.

My mum and dad travel to their caravan after morning rush hour on a Thursday or Friday, usually returning on a Tuesday to avoid the madness. I must say, if we go away for a long weekend, I prefer to go on a Thursday and return on a Monday.
