Barnet,
Regarding arrival of Spring, aside from everything coming into bloom which is lovely (around here get a lot of fields of rapeseed and the vivid bright yellow is gorgeous) I love the birdsong.

I'm not a birdwatcher/twitcher but I do love to sit in garden or stroll around a wood listening to birdsong. Aside from a few easy ones like blackbird and robin etc I can't identify them.
However, technology to the rescue. Inevitiably there is an app and the one I have on my phone is Merlin. It's free and you record the sounds and it identifies the birds. Brilliantly effective for anyone interested. I'll be in garden and think there are maybe only 3-4 different birds but it picks up 7-8 etc.
Really worth a try if you are interested.

I've got Merlin and it is quite amazing what it picks up.

I use Google.
All the apps just use the Google algorithm anyway.

" Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Merlin Bird ID app does not rely on Google’s proprietary algorithms (such as Google Lens or TensorFlow-based image recognition) for bird identification. Instead, it uses custom-trained machine learning models developed by Cornell and its partners. "

I got the Merlin app recently. It's brilliant. The conversation went like this:

#1SP: "Granddad what's that bird?
Me: "I don't know"
#1SP: "You can ask your phone. Nana's phone would know what bird it is"

I spoke to Nana later who enlightened me.
