With Mrs Tkk heqading up to London tomorrow for a prolonged visit it has been amusing to see how she has been " casually mentioning " what she finds to be the best washing machine settings for the various items. " I really like the 30 degree program for our regular clothes but of course the 60 degree works better on towels though, if I put it on the speed setting I always have to remind myself to use less detergent as it has a shortened rinse cycle " 😁

When her indoors goes off for a "prolonged visit" I inwardly rejoice

and immediately revert to my Batchelor habits i.e a slob. I wallow in it and thoroughly enjoy it. The night before she returns I feverishly undo all the slobby bits and slop around the house. The dogs love it when I slob it , they lie across me on the couch and get fed titbits etc. I am a dog at heart

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
That PB thread can be demoralising.

Long-term our PB's returned less than our other investments and we dumped them ages back.

For every 100k we have invested we get around £4250 pa net return without fail - our PB's were nowhere near that.

The very disingenuous PB rate has just gone down but ISA and FRB rates are creeping up!

I have got a job,A care assistant. Here in Meanwood.Father in law has settled in.He moved in 9th or 10th June.He is sleeping well eating well but mobility is a challenge. He fell twice in the first ten days, for no reason at all.So the Health centre have got their eyes on him.Eleven appointments so far with a nurse to treat the damage done to his skin due to the falls, his skin is like tissue paper. Then they cleaned his ears out and gave him digital hearing aids. Then they followed up Preston Hospitals find of heart problem,Leeds Hospital have done what they can,Specsavers have sorted his brokewn glasses and we have found a foot clinic to keep his toes clipped.Kay's hairdresser is coming Friday to cut his hair.We have been busy as you can see.Life has changed it is a challenge.I have the duty of cleaning his toilet daily or every other day, won't say why.Apart from Sunday morning church and Tuesday evening church house group,we don't leave him alone. So outing just on a whim are finished. It is going to be a task as he grows older he is 94 now,but i now know what to expect, all i need is for my cancer not to come back,or that would put the cat amongst the pigeons,so we carry on.

After my accident I have lived from hand to mouth for 36 years 🎻 so never had any money so to speak, if I want anything I have to save for it which could take many months and even a whole year and be very careful spending even going short of a few things at times, one thing it has taught me to appreciate everything I own and too look after it.
If I won any money ( I do the lottey and have a few PBs) I would give it all to my niece and nephew and their children, for I don't want anything as long as I have my rented flat and there is food in the fridge and cupboards I'm quite happy as I do know there are more worse off then I, again though no fault of their own, maybe they got the short straw as I did and I suppose we all can't have been born with a silver spoon in our mouths.

I wish I had been born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Life would have been much easier.

My family was poor and Mrs SD's was even poorer.

Together, we have worked hard, saved hard and stuck to a plan.

Now, we are pretty well off although I would swap it all to be rid if this ****ard illness, tbh.

Similar here.
My parents were poor (bog down the yard, no bath etc).
I eventually 'fell into' a decent job mid 80s and started earning decent money.
Eventually went on my own and that worked out well.
Sold out to my best customer when I was 63 for imo more than it was worth.
30 years too late but at least the last few years have been 'comfortable'.
