Serious question.
How do you define a "French meal".
eg if you said indian, Chinese or Thai they are all distinct.
I have had numerous holidays in various regions of France but, just reading your comment has got me thinking.

Hard to explain really because each region has its own way of preparing meals but they all have one thing in common: it is always tasty and comes with a sauce full of flavour.
This is one thing I dislike about English cooking, too dry or with industrial sauces like ketchup, brown sauce etc....
Also ,typical French meals include a starter, main course cheese, desert and is never rushed.

Personally I have been outside most of the day under the big umbrella thing
hotter out there but it feels cooler as long as I am in the shade

There is an entry on the cartoons thread with a man chasing a cloud of money
reminds me of seeing one once
I was visiting Chester just before Christmas one year with my ex and our baby daughter
I had been looking after the baby most of the day while my ex - err -- well - long story
anyway - we left the shopping centre to give the baby some food and drink and have a snack ourselves and ended up sitting on some "old stones" by some large gates and opposite a pub - but about 50 yards from the actual pub
anyway - a car with 4 men in it parked near us and sat there for a while
then they got out and took several large bin bags full of something light out of the boot and walked to wards the pub
a couple of dodgy looking other people walked round the corner at the same time and headed for the pub
nothing serious yet
anyway - after a couple of minutes the men walked out of teh pub - again carrying large bin bags of something - but a bit heavier
they started crossing the road in front of the pub when there was a shout from the pub and they just turned and legged it for the car
as they did 2 of the bags split and money just flew everywhere!
some otehr men ran otu of the pub and there was chaos as they all tried to work out whetehr to grab the cah, fight or run
after a few seocnds the first group ran for the car and they shot off - leaving the men from puib chasing cash all over the road and the grassed area with the "old stones" while it blew happily around in teh breeze
My ex told me to go and grab some but there was no way I was doing that - who know who the men where or how they would react!!!
anyway - they stopped after a while and went back to the pub - leaving a few bystanders to grab what was left
I left my ex and the baby and grabbed well over £200 in small notes from the gutters - enough at the time to pay for our train fare and a decent meal before we went home
weird seeing a literal cloud of money flying around though!
no idea how much was there
I presume the original bags contained cigarettes but I could be wrong

On a vaguely similar note.
I came out of a store in Stockport and there in the car park was a wallet. It was seriously stuffed with money, must have been £15K.
There was a business card and nearby was a white van bearing the company name.
I hung around till the guy went to the van and I asked him had he lost anything.
He knew right away and said "my wallet".
I handed it to him and he said "that's the lads wages........and that was it!! No thanks or get yourself a drink.
I put it down to shock as he had turned white but a thanks would have been nice.

Even the air con is struggling now. Its 30 deg in my house.
It's turned a little cloudy here and with the breeze it is a bit cooler. My tomatoes and beans were visible wilting at lunchtime.
They have all been watered, and now my butt is dry. Again.
I have been packing my holdall for the escape committee trip to the far north of Scotland on Monday.
We are on the direct train from King's Cross to Inverness, the following day on the train to Thurso. We are also going across to Orkney on Wednesday. Bus to John o'Groats on Thursday, plus the bus to Wick and either the train or the bus back to Thurso.
Friday is the train to Glasgow via Inverness and then Saturday back to London Euston.
It won't be a restful trip but something I've wanted to do for a few years now.

I lay on top of the bed and watched the cycling and tennis. Both sadly boring. I felt so sorry for Anisimova in the tennis final. Total whitewash which I don’t think has ever happened before.

I left the living room closed with the blinds and curtains shut. Just opened it just now to see what it was like and it was like an oven. So much for that supposed to help. I could hardly touch the window handles they were so hot!
I’m sitting in one of the back rooms where there’s a slight breeze getting in. Thank goodness we just have tomorrow to suffer another day of this before it eases a bit.

I haven't seen the tennis but Mrs P is wandering around the house chuntering. I've picked all the currants and left the fruit cage door open for the birds to clean up.
Mrs P has gone up to the allotment. I also cleared out a badly overgrown patch which she's wanted doing for weeks.
I have an IPA and packet of mini cheddar 👍
