forgot to mention

on my canal path ride yesterday I actually saw someone catch a fish!!

only the second time this has happened in many years of riding them

first time was years ago and the bloke was really excited and asked me to stop and take a picture so his wife - and mates - would believe him

no idea what kind of fish either case but it was fish shaped with fins if that helps - so not an eel

Years ago I got talking to a guy fishing on that canal...... he told me it is famous for Pike and fishermen come from miles away eg the Midlands to fish there.

Oh no, I wasn't aware of this. Very annoying.

It's covered on this thread here and all over internet if you do a search. Hopefully an update will be forthcoming to resolve it.

There are a lot of areas with a load of reeds - which I have heard pike like

but I have seldom seen anyone fishing in those areas

Having said which - at my normal "stop for a drink" point in Moore I found a spinner a week or so ago

it was just lying there so I suppose some must have been using it and leftit by accident
but it would have been a decent lure for pike
(he said trying to sound like he knows something about fishing!!!)

Someone put up a short video of our Highland Games on Facebook so don't know if this link will work or not. I think it depends on how the poster has set the privacy if I can share it or not.

Things like that always reminds me of a holiday on the shores of Loch Awe when I was a teenager
One evening we were sitting in the lounge waiting for it to be time for dinner and the manager rushed in

He said they were starting dinner service early with a slightly reduced menu
because the local village had invited all hotel guests to a dance/concert in the village hall that evening

the music was being provided by a piper
not just any old piper but the 3rd best piper in the whole of Scotland

Turned out that the village hall had a tin roof and the sound was amazing!!!

That was also the holiday when I discovered I liked black coffee - Mum had been trying to get me to drink coffee for years by putting more and more milk in it!
