Over our local playing fields, the council has put fences around the very mature Oak trees because of something called sudden branch drop. It has happened in some areas where the trees are so stressed because of the long dry weather that big branches are dropping off with no warning.

Oak is one of the species most commonly associated with this. The most usual conditions for this are warm and humid weather or very hot spells. It isn't the tree choosing to shed branches but the stress highlights pre-existing weakness. Heavy rain after a long dry spell can cause this. Water accumulates on the foliage adding weight.

A young woman died in Witton Park, Blackburn about ten days ago. She pushed her child away from the falling branch and was struck herself. This was a beech tree, another species commonly associated with sudden branch drop.

I will say a quick good morning as it still very early.
I woke for a Jimmy Riddle and as it as 5ish I decided to stay up.
Put my central heating on!!! Mainly to check it was working OK before winter arrives, so far it seems fine.

Barnet,
Good morning all.
A cloudy start to the day here, and the temperature has dtopped quite a bit from the heat of the last couple of weeks.
Off to the Clacton real ale festival and the air show today. We're getting the train from Liverpool Street.

Life gets complicated don't it  .
My cleaner normally comes on Friday but is on holiday from tomorrow so we arranged for her to come today instead.
I was in the midst of preparatory work and about to strip the bed and now she has messaged to say she is not well, so cannot come today/this week or next week.
Now.......I try to be fair to people but she doesn't seem to realise just how busy us retirees can be.
All she has to worry about is a husband, a house, 2 (admitedly) young children and preparing for their holiday from tomorrow.......oh, and being ill.
Complete lack of thought imo.
