Just talking to my daughter about my eyes/eyesight.
I am arranging to visit an optician but feel he make recommend a cataract op'.
No idea what the NHS waiting list is.

To be honest I don't miss not having a telly, one look at the radio TV guild and you most properly seen it before.

Last time I went for an eye test in both eyes, they just said they will monitor them
so at some point I will have to have an operation at some point, if I last that long.
In my area the waiting time is around 14 weeks first appointment, followed by about 13 weeks for treatment.

This talk of hospitals and medication brought to mind a podcast that I was listening to earlier in the week. The topic under discussion was the effect of music on the body / mind. The chap being interviewed was a top neurologist, a professor and also a gifted musician. They discussed stuttering amongst other conditions and the fact that speech is a timing thing synchronising breathing, the shape of the mouth, position and shape of the tongue etc. This all happens automatically for the vast majority of people, but occasionally goes adrift in others. He mentioned that there's one quite well known actor who has a stutter that disappears when he is acting a role, the actor said that he memorises the script to a rhythm. Similarly with stutterers who can sing without difficulty. He also mentioned Parkinsons as a body / nerve timing issue and that listening to music can help synchronise the body's movements.
He then went on to discuss the pre op procedure and how playing calming music can help with relaxation, perhaps removing the need for the mild sedative that's usually used.
There was one thing he said that caused me to pause and rewind to re listen, he mentioned that a valium over the counter in the USA costs about $3 , but when administered in a hospital environment that cost increases to $750 😮

Originally, only those who foraged for enough food, found shelter etc survived
Over the years, finding food and shelter, was replaced with other skills (for some), so, only those who could use their skills to either provide food and shelter, or, to trade their skills for it, survived.
Then, came the Internet, Influencers, etc etc Evolution is going into reverse 😂

Had to visit a lady this morning to help her with her computer and phone
Age UK has a scheme where "people who think they know about computers" help older people with them
and no - we don;t get paid!
I think it is something that people should know about
I just wish they would stop called me a "Digital Champion"
it sounds incredibly naff and makes me sounds like I think I know everything
anyway - sorted everything out (edited from "sorted her out" to keep "those people" quiet!!) and got her computer working and the NHS app installed and all that
so I feel useful - which is good

My neighbour/friend (who is the guy I enjoy my Thursday pub lunch with) doesn't have a licence and just watches youtube westerns etc.
So, each to his own.
I enjoy early evening stuff eg the news but have never and will never watch a soap.
My earlier comment was to say.......if he enjoys TV and is of a similar age then he may as well spend and enjoy his hard earned money.
