I commend your recycling but doesn't throwing chicken etc away encourage rats and vermin?

I would also worry about domestic pets finding and eating them as cooked chicken bones can cause serious injury.

The sky is very dark here and the rain has been on several times. Apart from bringing the bin in soon, I’m not sure I’ll get back out unless it brightens up.

Recycling. Very close to my heart.
Green - general waste
Brown - paper, card etc
Grey - garden waste - heavy prunings, noxious weeds etc.
Blue - glass and tin
Food caddy - coming in 2026
Plastic bag - soft plastic to take to supermarket

I have a compost heap, three in fact, and compost everything possible. As much garden waste as possible, newspaper and cardboard go in. Our council is introducing food waste caddies next year but I will rarely use it. All our food waste, peelings etc. goes in a large dalek bin, once it's broken down it goes on the compost heap. I would put bones, carcases in a caddy but everything else eventually ends up as compost.

Soft plastics back to the supermarket is really important. It must be clean so I rinse the anything that's "dirty" such as meat wrapping.

Mark the Plumber arrived a couple of hours early. Had a good old chinwag then took a look at the shower valve. He has changed the cartridge on a previous occassion but said due to age and the build up of calcium over the years it would be more cost effective to order a new complete unit. He has accounts with the local plumbing suppliers but suggested that I order it myself online from one of the reputable suppliers as it would be cheaper than he could get it for. He had a few horror stories about stuff from Victoria Plumbing and a couple of other suppliers who get stuff from China that's almost an exact copy of an established brand but built as cheaply as possible. We had a coffee and put the world to rights before he left. No charge either, just said the coffee was excellent and to give him a ring when the new shower arrived and he'd come back and fit it.
