It’s a simple system that works well as it’s easy to remember 😀

Our bins are simple but collection days make me spin. I have to put a note in my calendar for what is when. If you want to know what bins I'm putting out on July 20th 2026, I can tell you!!! Sad old git that I am. 🤣

👍 to the authorities using black bins with coloured lids. This next bit is not 100% true but is definitely partly so. Coloured plastic is made from virgin polymer which is white and then dyed. So potentially a blue recycling bin is new plastic!!! Recycled plastics most easily make black plastic products. To my mind recycling bins should be as environmentally friendly as possible and not made from virgin polymer unless there is a very sound reason.

I'll add my knowledge of plastic manufacture is limited to products used in horticulture. Coloured pots for example were hugely expensive, raw polymer, compared to black from recycled materials. Our suppliers always gave this as the reason for the significant price variation.

Barnet,
Disagree, some brands do. PG Tips and Yorkshire. This is why I choose them for household tea.

After a quick look I found this. Not being an expert in compostable tea bags, but i have heard that some are. I can't say if it's true or not

Good morning folks, I bring glad tidings about hedgehogs 🦔🦔. The lovely lady from the rescue centre called to ask my surname so they could claim gift aid on the donation I made when she collected " Tripod " the injured hedgehog that now only has 3 legs. Tripod is recovering well and has been x rayed to ensure there's no bone fragments that might prevent healing. Meanwhile in the early hours of this morning the camera picked up a hedgehog investigating the newly vacated hog house😎. First job is to head to the nearest pet emporium for a fresh bag of barley straw which I will leave around the entrance to the hedgehog house, having binned all the old nesting material when extricating the injured hedgehog.

Good morning. Mild outside and fairly non-descript. I have no real news. I'm going to a funeral this morning, despite my age I so far have attended mercifully few. My friend was only 56 and had been ill with breast cancer which was "successfully" treated and then returned. We rode many miles together on club rides for several years though for obvious reasons it's been a while since we did that. We would occasionally bump into her while gravel riding as she replaced her cycling with walking and we use some of the local bridleways on our excursions. She's the first person in my club to pass on since it was reformed in 2012. I know a few club members are going, I hope there will be many. A sad day.

As the oldest active member of my club, there are two older than me, it's a sobering thought

Good morning all fellow retirees.
It's going to be a dry day here with a bit of a breeze.
Today's task is to put a new sliding bolt onto the outside of the back gate, but first I have to cut some timber to build up a base for the bolt to

A serious question.......why would you put a bolt on the outside of a gate ??? What if someone who is inside wants to get out ?

Morning all :hello:

Pottering and tinkering day today.
Bins go out this evening; black for general waste, green for garden, brown for food, blue bag for tins and plastic, black box for paper and cardboard, green box for glass and tetrapaks.
It was much simpler when the dustman collected your galvanised dustbin!

A point of order as your comment is likely to offend hedgehogs everywhere.
The HH in question has 3 1/2 legs** (see how i pay attention) so technically is not a tripod.
**if I recall correctly it's leg was lost at the joint so unless they had to remove what was left my point is valid.
The only recourse is a full apology and then a national pol to choose a suitable name, results published in the National HH News.

Morning all.
Woke at 06.30 and genuinely thought it must be 2ish as it was so dark.
Only job today is to strip and wash/dry the bedding. My cleaner will be here at 12.30.
Being an orderly sort of chap (not) my meals are planned.......brunch will be cheese and tomatoes on toast while later meal will be home made curry with rice and naan bread.
