When I bought the computer last year I told myself First rule of new computer: don't eat in front of new computer. Well, that lasted about a week. So in addition to the dust and bits, the screen is also occasionally targeted by a pierced cherry tomato, or whatever's in my mouth at the time when something funny enough scrolls by.

I used to work in a very techy part of the IT department

there were 4 of us in the team and the lad who sat next to me had a habit of going to get a sandwich for lunch every day

Then eating it at his desk - which is fine - I did the same

but he liked the ones on a very crusty roll
and he didn;t move anything on his desk before eating it
and we had computer terminal on our desk so he was eating it over the keyboard

naturally one day his keyboard stopped working and he stated him opinion that is was just faulty and "they don;t last as long as they used to"
our boss nearly did himself a mischief laughing - and came over and cleared a space on his desk then banged the back of the keyboard over it
the whole desk ended up covered in crumbs

we opened up the keyboard (we did things like that - even though we were supposed to be "software only - no screwdrivers!!" and found the circuit board was covered in butter and mayonnaise and bits of lettuce

we washed it in the loos with soap and water and it worked fine after wards!!!

he was banned from eating crusty cobs until he moved his keyboard after that!!

What is will say now is vague and may not be accurate. Bear with me.
Going back maybe 50 years my SiLs husband (that's Sue's sisters husband) was 'into' computers. This was when computer language was all 1s and 0s and before I had ever touched one.
He was employed by the Co-op bank and quickly climbed the ladder.
I recall him being flown to Monaco and a private helicopter flying him to the Co-op office and landing on the roof.
He and I grew up together near the docks in Seacombe and he, like me, was just a raggedy ar*ed kid ..... but he had a gift.
Sadly, 3 kids later that marriage failed and he now lives somewhere near Stoke.
I hope you didn't fall asleep reading that

Evening folks :okay: a weather window today so off for spin, have been quite chesty recently and short of breath so hoping that i can clear the airways. A shortish ride [24m] but decided to ride up to a windfarm on the way home which is quite a beast of a hill....got to meter out the watts otherwise will grind to a halt...a case of a pedal breathe pedal breathe slow rhythm. Anyhow all that deep breathing seemed to be just the tonic and i whizzed home feeling much restored and firing on all cylinders! :okay:

I haven't heard this before. The basic has never, as far as I know, passed the tax threshold. However as the SP is currently only £22 below the threshold, which is frozen till April 2031, it's a certain part of the SP will be taxed next year.

I feel sure the government will have a plan to address this. There will be uproar when the "poor pensioners face tax hike" headlines start.

Then the practical difficulty of collecting the tax. There are 13 million recipients of the SP. I reckon at least half would never have done a self-assessment return plus it has to be done online!!:eek:

Crap hit the Fourth Estate fan last year when the SP percentage increase was announced.

I can't imagine The Guardian, like the rest of the broadsheets, missing it, tbh.

SA not needed. AFAIK, Gov' knows if you are getting company pension or investment income, and tax is deducted from those sources. Part of the big digital tax revolution.
