Walk done but it wasn't exactly pleasant.

Porridge time now.

I've just realised that what the weather is doing at the moment is the Dorset equivalent of the Scottish " Haar ".
( I suppose that the Dorset version should be a " Haaaaaar " due to Poole's association with pirates )
I'm waiting for it to abate before heading to the Post Office, it's a 1 mile walk and as it's quite a large cardboard box it will soak up the mist. I've been selling a few items on Ebay, just putting them up with a fixed price and waiting for someone to purchase. After listing there's usually an early flurry of low offers which I ( almost ) always reject. There's an option to automatically donate a percentage of the sale price to a nominated charity ( I've opted for a Downs syndrome charity ). I have to be in the right frame of mind to take photo's and list stuff, next will be a Rohan Goretex cycling jacket that's been sitting in the wardrobe unworn for a couple of years, a Brompton logo'd baseball cap and whatever else comes to hand.

Looks like the counsel had followed through with the plans to close the road going past the estate where we live

so it is closed for the rest of the week while they resurface it

Basically it has needed doing for years since a company started using the closed golf course as a warehouse for grit, stone, gravel and stuff like that
so the lorries bringing it and taking it away again were constantly going up and down the road
and hence the wear on the road was massive

but in the intervening years that have been patching up the worst bits and leaving teh rest to get worse
Which, as you can imagine is wonderful ona bike - - guaranteed cracks, holes and constant gravel

so hopefully it should be much better when it gets re-opened

but in the meantime we have to go "round the block" to get anywhere

Lots of road resurfacing going on here too, and, various other “little improvements”, usually associated with a photograph of a local councillor, in hi-viz and hardhat. Coincidentally, we have local elections shortly 😊

Same here but without the publicity

funny how lots of roadworks suddenly start up just before April!!

(yes yes - I know - cold weather is bad for hot tar and all that - which comes into it as well)

Saw a couple of local bobbies on the beat walking around the area, coincidentally just before the local election. It's almost as if the two are related...

Quite a few roadworks happen at this time of year so the councils can spend any money that's left so it isn't taken off next year's budget, i believe 🤷‍♂️

When I was working in school I was often in the IT department

not just the "teaching IT" department but the "everything that is anything related to a computer" type IT department

Basically it was a hangover from the days when the olny computers in a school were a few BBC Micros that one teacher was in charge of
Then they spread a little bit so a technician was recruited - but it stayed under the same bloke (normally!)

anyway - I soon found that any new software or upgrades to the computer I used was normally based on
"lets wait until after Christmas and see howmuch Dave (the IT tech) has had to spend to keep the computers working and we can see what money we have left"
and it was VERY important that that money left over was spent - because if it was not then "someone" might think we didn;t need so much next year in spite of the known problems

so - basically - Febuary and March were a race to spend money before it was noticed that we had some left over

It was very different to the big company I had worked for before where would could be spending 1000 times as much but we had a proper project plan with costsing and everything
Ratehr than "Mike (thats me) we had some more money left so you can have this new memory for your classroom computer"

I've just made a ginger cake to cheer me up as this double vision is getting me down
The hospital said "I will get use to it in a couple of day"........well it hasn't  .
Just found this, as I have been feeling sick for the last few days and in church yesterday I felt very
weak and had to sit down for half of the service
Feeling sick with new prism lenses is
often a temporary side effect of your brain adapting to a new, clearer, or shifted image, sometimes resulting in dizziness, nausea, or headache

Just gone onto Love to Ride because they were wittering about a "new challenge" on an email

Anyway I noticed that the miles logged on there is now over 10,000

which does show that I don;t record everything (it is linked to Strava)
because the mileometer on my bike is currently nearly at 12,000 - and I started logging ride on a previous ebike

but it does mean that my 10,000 mile badge on it is now valid

I got it when I did a ride several years ago which started a few hundred miles south of the Bering Strait and went directly across the USA and Canada to a point on the Bridgewater Canal as it approaches Warrington and then rode home along the canals

all in about 2 hours

now clearly it was on an ebike - but however you lot might think I must be an ultra fit Alpha and all that
The battery would not support than sort of speed for long

So I changed it
but their support said that deleting the 10,000 mile badge would be difficult so I kept it

but it is not valid!!!
