Afternoon all . Been in the garden all morning doing a few jobs and making the most of the good weather before the next storm comes in for the weekend ( they are very annoying as they have been stopping me sailing for the last few weeks 😀) .
Just about finished and my daughter, who is having a break from her online accounting course comes out and says can I have a look at her bike as it not ‘ working well ‘. 😀.
OMG . What she really means was , it had no brakes , gears not working and the chain dry and rusted plus the mud guard is falling off . 😂 So two hours later , it has now has new brake blocks and the cables have been adjusted so at least it stops . The mud guard is reattached . The gears cleaned and adjusted and are now working, even if not perfectly and the chain has been cleaned and oiled. It probably needs a new chain but it wheither the bike itself is worth it is debatable.
She has two bikes , one is in good condition. The other is the one she uses to get about locally , for this use she buys the cheapest bike she can find that works second hand ( £50 to £80) and spends as little on it as she can or in some cases nothing as she uses up the spares I have in my sheds 😂 ie the new brake blocks . Uses it for 2 or three 3 year or until it doesn’t work at all, then gives it to the local bicycle recycler and the buys another one .
I sort of understand her logic, as I always had old bikes to ride to work on , but at least mine always worked properly even if they looked like s@@t.

Her logic works brilliantly: she has you to sort them out!!
Time to make her roll up her sleeves when you sort them out 😉

& I hope Drago is okay….no idea what has upset him here, but then I am very much more a part-timer…

Having fish & chips delivered this evening.

A chilly 2 degrees to start here but blue sky and sun so it was gorgeous for my wander. Just over 6 miles this morning and porridge has just been eaten.

My joints have been a bit achy the last couple of weeks but I had stopped my fish oil and vitamin d thinking they didn't do much, but perhaps they do so just started back on them. Up here in the gloomy north it is perhaps sensible to take vitamin d all year round.

Vitamin D does seem to be necessary all year - based on the sort of people you SHOULD listen to as opposed to "the others"

I have never been certain if you have exposed skin and all that - but it does seem to be the consensus
especially for me as I do not absorb some things very well
i.e. vitamins D Iron and a few others
(I do seem to be fine at absorbing fat and all that perfectly well!!!!

Hope you get it sorted anyway - joints are pretty useful!

especially for someone doing the sort of walks that you do - which is admirable!

Right - cold (or whatever) os still having after effects so my breathing is not up to stratch -

but the rain seems to be taking a break so a ride might be possible later on

There are also a few bits and pieces that I should get done around the house - started yesterday with a mirror in the loo (no - I don't understand either!) and fixing a blind that the grandkids had "been playing with"

and the garden needs weeding a bit - the warmer weather seems to have encouraged so local plants!

Back from Aldi.
Is it me or is Aldi strange ? I wanted water chestnuts for the stirfry......the girl said they only do them at Christmas. I said surely not as I have bought them previously. I asked the only other girl I could find and she didnt have a clue.

I asked a girl at our local bakery if they were doing Simnel cake this year and she didn't have a clue what it was.

yes, we used to have these things called Coordinates (latitude and longitude), what3words is a solution to a problem which did not exist (IMHO)

co-ordinates and map references are more complicated for people to work out in an emergency

Especially if they are "just people" rather than experienced walker/riders etc

when I was younger I was in the Scouts etc and I could have given a map reference easily
but these days not many people will have proper map on them and even fewer will be able to work out where they are accurately
and even fewer give the proper reference

but anyone with a smartphone is likely to be able to use what3words even if they are panicking

AND
giving 3 words over a bad signal phone call is less likely to be mis-understood than giving a numeric co-ordinate
humans are very good at switching digits in numbers

although - as pointed out before - some plurals and singulars near each other and similar sounding words are a problem if you are not careful

but apparently it has saved lived so it is better than nothing!
