Yay! Fish Friday!
Got a couple of hours in the workshop before we go out for lunch.
I have to make 5 clutch tools that have been ordered.
I quite enjoy doing them with the cutting, turning, drilling, grinding, welding and polishing involved. Keeps my skills sharp. It also pays for my hobby. Win, win.
Dirk, here's a question for you. Do you check that the fish you buy is actually correct or have etc ??
I was just reading that there is a growing % of chippies selling cat fish and passing it off as cod. If it just 'says' eg fish and chips it could well be catfish as the texture is similar and they are not breaking the law. If, on the other hand it actually says eg cod then it has to be cod.
BTW I have knowingly eaten catfish and enjoyed it.
Sort of related to this, there's a very highly regarded Fish and Shop with attached restaurant just around the corner from where our daughter lives. They offer a couple of veggie alternatives to fish, one is battered Halloumi, the other is " Banana Blossom ", again battered and deep fried. I'd never heard of it before but our granddaughter loves it. I looked it up and found this:
Bananas on trees grow in clusters and at the end of the cluster, there's a purple flower growing - this is known as the banana blossom (or banana blower or banana heart) The petals are fleshy and soft and therefore PERFECT for vegan fish!
Again, not tried it myself but will probably try a bit when the opportunity arises.
Well that walk was hard work. Only 2.2 miles but I'm knackered.
Its very close and feels as though we are in for some serious rain.
Same here. I’m just back from walking round to Aldi for a couple of things and it felt really humid and uncomfortable. I might just chill the rest of the day
Is there a Lidl near you.
The nearest one to me is awkward to get to, too far to walk and the roads to get there are very busy.
They are building BIG one nearer and easier to get to. I will try it as I like thier bakery.
Aldi is easier to get to if I go before 0800 or after 0900 as the side road its on is a cut through for the A49 which takes traffic to both the M62 and M6 junctions....its a no go area for me if I can avoid it.
Bit too far to get the odd snack then.Nearest Lidl is in Perth, 17 miles away.
