He was Worshipful Marter of the Cheleea lodge a while back. My Dad, far higher ranked than I am, got a visit and met him.

Bonjour.
They say you have all the time in the world when you retire.
I beg to differ.
I tend to ride my bike at least twice a week to allow for recovery time.
Today is supposed to be time for a ride but we had visitors so couldn't go.
Yesterday the weather was against me too.
Tomorrow, we have more visitors.
Saturday Mrs G wants to go to a garden centre with our daughter and grand daughter who have come up from Devon.
Sunday they all want to go for a meal in Llandudno.
So , really, if all goes well , Monday is my only option.

I share your pain, finding the opportunity to ride is becoming a real challenge. Yes, we are supposed to have more time but it doesn't work out like that. My granddaughters take up two days a week, and I wouldn't have it any other way , they're too important, but booking out two days of every seven makes a difference.

I've got all the time in the world, do what I want when I want.

However, because I've become used to this temporal freedom even the slightest commitment feels disproportionate. When Iwas working a half hour appointment somewhere was just something to be slipped in as and when, but now it feels like half a day wasted.

Good morning. Today's forecast is variable......................each time I look out of the window the weather has changed. Well then. You've read or heard about the train chaos in the Midlands and North West yesterday. We went to Manchester in the morning!! We did come back in the evening but only after meeting up with #1 son who by chance had taken his car into work and drove us home. As we milled around Deansgate station deciding what to do we bumped into four friends who all turned up independently vaguely wondering how on earth they would get back to Chorley...................they headed off on a tram to Piccadilly on the basis more trains go through Piccadilly.................the problem with that theory is when everything stops there are more trains that don't run through Piccadilly.

When we got home I applied for a refund. The full journey, both ways, was refunded within the hour. I can't complain about that. A lot of hospital IT infrastructure was down yesterday as well. Mrs P is blaming the Russians

So, today? I will sand and wash down the skirting boards ready to paint tomorrow afternoon. At some point I need to get emulsion and gloss. There's quite a lot to do and I need to avoid getting bogged down with doing stuff that can be put off for a while..................that's code for Paul doesn't want to decorate!

Right - today I have to get the car to the garage - assuming they have time to deal with the screw in the tyre!

if not - probably the Halfords place just down the road that used to be Nations tyres and exhausts
that or KwikFit but I don;t like KF - had some bad experiences with them back when Moses were a lad

Sunny and pleasant, heatwave due yet again next week. I do like dry sunny weather but lack of rain is a concern for wildlife, water supplies and the ongoing wildfires.
Really enjoyable ride yesterday with a few mates from cycling club. Was good to get out with some company for a change and there were two cafe stops(!).

Just had brekkie, coffee and done the washing up.
Will nip to the bakers for some rolls and then it's DIY time (actually I can here the BH has started) doing more wore work on the expanded cupboard under the stairs.

Fish Friday!!
Great night at the Washford Bike meeting; well over 100 in attendance and I won a raffle prize!
Taking pup for a walk and lunching in the Star later.

How does the hierachy work in the organization of funny handshakes?

My Dad and our old next-door-neighbour were members of the local Lodge

One evening they were doing whatever it is that they do
and John leaned over to my Dad and said "why are we here when we could be at the bar at the sailing club

well that was the end of all that - they both left a few months after

I did ask him at one point if he had ever thought about asking me if I wanted to join

he said the two of them did chat about it once
and the response was that if they asked me and his son (we grew up together) then we might ask what they do and all that
and then collapse laughing

so they thought it was best to not mention it


having said which I still know him and he is a very respectable sort of person and I would not be surprised to find out that he had ended up as a member of a lodge somewhere round the New Forest
wonder where I went wrong - along with the other lad in our little trio growing up who probably loved arresting Lodge members!!
