Morning all :hello:

Had one of the nicest pub fish & chips ever at the Hood, in Kilve.
Perfectly cooked with light, crispy batter.
This was their kids portion for 8 quid.
We also got another sticker to put on our Somerset CAMRA pub trail card.

Off to the Farmers Arms and the White Horse today to pick up another couple of stickers. Only 5 more to go and I get a T shirt.

Made a start on the MZ kickstart spring problem.
Just for @Dave7 as I know he'll be up to speed on this matter...

2 points.
1. The fish and chips look really good. Mushy peas would improve it IMO but its still acceptable.
2. Re the MZ. The problem is, to me, quite obvious. You may struggle a bit but trust me Dirk, that is the best way to learn. "Give a man a fish" and all that.

As far as the fires and Alert are concerned

I got the Alert - my wife didn;t

no idea why

but we have been somewhat worried - there are a load of trees just over the fence at the bottom of the garden
they are as dry as whatsit - as shown by them dropping leaves all over the garden
no Autumn levels - but lots!

I have been wondering (and moaning) about the counsel cutting all the bushes and undergrowth back around the far side of the main wooded area because it makes it easier to people to get close to our back fence

but given the weather the last few weeks if does reduce the chances of anyone "accidentally" starting a fire

some people round here are not of the type that is good at thinking - to be nice to them
(as always - most are either nice people or OK - but.........)

Bonjour tout le monde.
Had a nice letter from the DVLA yesterday advising me that my driving licence is due for renewal and an envelope to send it back or do it on line. I chose to do it the old fashioned way and send it back. It may take up to 3 weeks to get the new one to me but it doesn't matter. I can wait.
My old one is valid until the end of October so I can still drive legally.
The weather had gone a lot cooler but also a lot more comfortable with cloudy sky.
Another trip to the tip at lunch time and then off for a ride , training for the Bike Chester sportive next Sunday ( 23rd ).
It is only 50 kms but I don’t ride that far very often nowadays .

Forgot to say last night

BUT I was attacked by a hawk!!
OK - maybe a falcon

Personally, I am wondering that possibly one of you lot sent it on an assassination mission

we have some Ladies that live in remote places and I reckon one (or more) of them maybe is "closer to nature" than she says
I have known witches in the past and they have been lovely people
but not the sort you want to annoy !
and she sent a Bird of Prey after me for some comments that maybe criticised one of her best friends
maybe someone who might or might not drive a Triumph Acclaim
or one who wears Undies that are classified at a level close to the Elephant's Foot at Chernobyl

but there is another less likely theory

basically we have the new gazebo/pagoda
and now we have new patio furniture including a table and chair

So I was having my dinner at the new table and my wife was reading in the pagoda/ballroom

then suddenly I noticed movement up and to my leftish
looked and saw the spread out tail feather of a bird of prey in attack mode
ducked - they have claws - and put my hands up
and next thing there was a loud thump as it hit the kitchen window behind me

I looked round and just caught a glimpse of it flying off into the trees at the back and to the right

My wife says shw heard it hit the gazebo/zepplin hangar roof slightly and saw it curve round and towards the house and me

AT the time I reckoned it was after my minted lamb burger
(it could have asked - I would have let it have some as they were not that nice!!!)

but with hindsight maybe it was after a squirrel in the trees - missed and hit the pagoda roof
then swerved round into clearish air and ended up heading towards me
and as I moved it tried to climb , cleared me but hit the windows then got control back

probably - kept an eye out for it all evening and didn;t see anything

Pssstttt.......good stuff.......who'd you get it from????? 😎

I 'made the mistake' of renewing mine by post.... secure postage costs an arm and a leg.

Good morning. Grey, cool and breezy. A comfortable day in shorts and T shirt.

This weekend I'm responsible for and feeding George, Kenny, Bridget, Ginger, Snowy, #1 and #3SP............three cats, two guinea pigs and two small girls. My plan is put them all in a pen with a variety of foods and then go for a bike ride..........seems like a reasonable plan to me??

Nice and cool here now but it was hot last night and couldn't get to sleep for ages and had a couple of coughing fits; bit better this morning and the coughing is not so raspy and have a fuzzy head and not a full on headache so hopefully it's on the way out.

Nothing planned today although if next door has one of their Saturday creches we may have a wander out, otherwise will do an order for some socks and pants from here ;https://communityclothing.co.uk/ .Have worn a lot of their stuff and it's all lasting really well, obviously not the cheapest.

Also will be having a search for some xt or xtr v-brakes for the BH's Kona to replace the Maguras that are on there at the moment.

Deep thought of the day: is retirement all it's cracked up to be?

I always thought that we would want to be doing oodles of stuff but tbh, a lot of the desire seems to have gone.

Hope you are all having a relaxing day/retirement!

Well, to the first bit, YES, without doubt. The best years of our life for many reasons. The only thing I'd change, is my wife's health.

Busy? Yes, most of the time. Too busy? Sometimes, yes and then I resolve not to take on doing stuff. The one minor disappointment is I don't get as much riding today as I did three or four years ago........I guess that's just how it goes.

Barnet,
I spent a hour or so helping my neighbours to trim/reduce a smoke bush in their front garden that should of been a bush, but had grown way too big and was 15 feet tall, more like a tree.
It gave me a bit of a workout.
Now I'm going to cycle to the local shops for a couple of bits and pieces, which will include a bottle or three of ale.

Good gear those XT V brakes. No need to pay extra for XTRS
