Lots of rain yesterday and last might so the gardens looking a bit fresher now.

Had breakfast and coffee, washing up done and will pop out for thrifting and shopping in a bit.

Will give the Stayer a clean as it's quite dirty with Norfolk sand and dust and the chain needs a lube as well.

Ended up spending all afternoon (just finished!) on the Stayer as it was worse than I thought and ended up stripping the rear mech off and taking out the jockey wheels but all back together and running smoothly.

Yes - spent a few year sailing on the tide at Hoylake

Then switched to smaller dinghies at West Kirby for quite a few years - on the Marine Lake and out on the river/estuary when the tides were at a reasonable time

It was great - even though the boat I sailed it was old and slow but little races always sprang up right down the field

A couple of hours ago I had to nip out to geta couple of things from Tesco for tea (dinner for posh people and Southerners)

Anyway - jumped in the car and set off

There is a point where you go past a "square" with a church and the old Town Hall (now a pub/club) witha wide open paved area
anyway that is 20 mph for cars on the road through
and the vast majority of cars turn right after the paved area

SO I did that as usual - signalled and all that
nothing coming so just swung round the corner
as I got round the car set off a warble type alarm that I have never heard before

AND a car overtook me - literally within a couple of yards of the junction
At Speed
and had to cut in JUST in front of me to avoid a car coming towards us!!!

He must have been so close behind that he set off the parking sensors which only make a noise of that pitch when you are within an inch or so of the object!!!


as he (probably) shot off up the road I could see his suspension cranking over as he took a very gentle bend far far too fast!!!

what a ****head!!


did check the car after - he actually missed me - just!

Oh - another thing today

Noticed on a local facebook group an advert for a charity bike ride

from a pub about 2 miles away - the nearest to where I used to work - and where we used to go after school on the last day of term
(yes - AFTER the kids left - not before lessons !!!!!)

anyway - it was from the pub - to Warrington and back
which is basically the northern part of my normal ride!!

But then I saw the date - it was today!

pity - would have been noce to tootle along with some locals on bikes


anyway - probably a repeat - but a story from that pub

when I left the school - i.e. my last day as a teacher
a group of us went to that pub

I got there after everyone else becuase I always stayed behind and checked all the computers and projectors (etc) were properly shutdown
(teachers are not always the best computer users!!!)

anyway - I got there and asked for a large glass of red wine

the barmaid looked at me and said "sorry - I can;t do that - that lady has the large wine glass"

Yup - the pub only had ONE large wind glass

I controlled my voice and everything and mentioned very nicely "Oh - do you have a measure (I could see them) because if you do you could measure it and put into in a half pint glass maybe"

She was very impressed by my inventiveness and thought it was a great idea

The teacher next to me was trying not to laugh and got the same thing


When we got to the table I told the other

someone commented "anyone recognise her - she HAS to be one of our girls!!"

Back in the early 80s I worked with a guy who sailed at West Kirby. So, I guess his age would be mid to late 70s now.
His name was Peter**. Slim, may 5'9".
A bit pompous imo.
**I think his surname began with a 'W'......maybe Winstanley but can't remember.
Just wondered if it rang any bells.

I’ll get out as soon as there’s a glimmer of light. I feel it’s a bit early to start with head torch walks yet.
